ThredUp seller payout (US): Clean Out pays 3% to 80% of the final sale price, Direct Listing 100%
ThredUp is not a marketplace where you set a price and the platform takes a percentage. On Clean Out, ThredUp prices and lists the item and you receive a share of the final selling price that rises with that price; a flat service fee then comes off the bag’s earnings. This page shows the published schedule and works the arithmetic. It is a static guide, not a live calculator.
ThredUp payout data checked 2026-11-01 against the ThredUp Clean Out guide, the ThredUp help fees article (updated 2026-08-28), the Direct Listing page and the ThredUp Seller Terms (last updated 2024-12-05). United States, USD.

Short answer: your share rises with the sale price, then a service fee comes off
On ThredUp Clean Out your payout is a share of the final selling price that climbs from 3% at $5 to 80% at $200, and a flat $14.99 (Standard) or $34.99 (Premium) service fee comes off the bag’s earnings after items sell. The share is worked on the price the item finally sells for, after ThredUp’s markdowns and any buyer discount, not the price it was first listed at. There is no upfront fee.
Direct Listing is a second, separate path: you set the price and ship the item, and ThredUp charges you 0% in seller fees, with a $20 minimum listing price and a buyer-side fee that does not count toward your earnings. It is an in-app beta, not the default. US sellers, USD.
ThredUp Clean Out payout chart (US, as of Oct 2026)
| Final selling price | Seller share | Seller earns (before service fee) |
|---|---|---|
| $5 | 3% | $0.15 |
| $20 | 15% | $3.00 |
| $50 | 30% | $15.00 |
| $100 | 60% | $60.00 |
| $200 | 80% | $160.00 |
| Any other price | Not a published formula. The guide shows these anchors and says the share grows with the price, so do not read a straight line between rows. Use ThredUp’s earnings estimator for other prices. | |
Source: the ThredUp Clean Out guide, fetched 2026-11-01. We call the percentage the seller share or payout share, because the guide words it as a percentage of the selling price. ThredUp has published separate schedules for other programs; this page covers the standard Clean Out guide only.
What the share is calculated on: final selling price after markdowns
Per the guide and ThredUp’s Seller Terms (last updated 2024-12-05), the payout is based on the final selling price, excluding any logistics surcharge a buyer may incur. Gradual markdowns and buyer discounts lower that price. For Premium, the guide says the effect of buyer discounts on your earnings is capped at 20%. Because the share also falls as the price falls, a markdown cuts the payout twice. Both rows below are published anchors; the comparison between them is our arithmetic.
| Final selling price | Seller share | Seller earns | Change vs the $100 row |
|---|---|---|---|
| $100.00 (sold at list) | 60% | $60.00 | - |
| $50.00 (sold after markdown) | 30% | $15.00 | Price −50%, payout −75% |
This illustrates why the final selling price matters; it does not predict how far ThredUp will mark any item down. For contrast, on Poshmark seller fees (20% on items over $15) the seller sets the price and the commission is a fixed 20%, while on Clean Out ThredUp sets the price and your share moves with it.
The $14.99 or $34.99 service fee: charged once, after items sell
ThredUp’s help page says there are no upfront fees. The service fee is $14.99 for a Standard Clean Out Kit and $34.99 for Premium. It is deducted from the bag’s earnings only after items sell, once per bag, and if your earnings are less than the fee you are not charged the difference (help page updated 2026-08-28; confirm the wording on the live page). A bag with a single sale shows the effect:
| Only sale in the bag | Share | Earnings before fee | Fee charged | Net credit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $20.00 | 15% | $3.00 | $3.00 (capped at earnings; the difference is not charged) | $0.00 |
| $50.00 | 30% | $15.00 | $14.99 | $0.01 |
| $100.00 | 60% | $60.00 | $14.99 | $45.01 |
A very small or zero payout on a bag with few sales is usually this rule at work. Real bags hold many items, so the fee is spread across every sale.
Worked example: one $100 sale in a Standard bag
| Line | Charged on | Rate | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Final selling price | - | - | $100.00 |
| Seller share | $100.00 | 60% (published anchor) | $60.00 |
| Standard service fee | Bag earnings, after the sale | Flat, charged once per bag | −$14.99 |
| Net credit from this bag | $45.01 |
Send a Standard Clean Out Kit to ThredUp and one item sells at a final price of $100, and your share is 60%, or $60.00. The $14.99 service fee is taken from that after the sale, leaving $45.01 in ThredUp credit if nothing else in the bag sells. List the same item yourself through Direct Listing at $100 and ThredUp charges you 0%, though a buyer-side fee is added on top and you ship it.
Examples assume a US Clean Out seller, a final selling price equal to the published anchor (after any markdowns), no logistics surcharge, no Value Brand items, no sales tax, and the service fee charged once against the bag’s total shares. Single-sale bags are shown to make the fee visible. Each line is rounded half-up to the cent. See how Feebrief estimates seller fees.
A more realistic bag: four sales at $100, $50, $20 and $5
| Line | Share | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Sale at $100.00 | 60% | $60.00 |
| Sale at $50.00 | 30% | $15.00 |
| Sale at $20.00 | 15% | $3.00 |
| Sale at $5.00 | 3% | $0.15 |
| Shares before service fee ($175.00 in sales) | $78.15 | |
| Standard net credit ($78.15 − $14.99) | 36.1% of sales | $63.16 |
| Premium net credit ($78.15 − $34.99) | 24.7% of sales | $43.16 |
The higher Premium fee only pays back on higher-value bags. Premium also has a higher stated acceptance rate (80% to 90% against 60% to 80% on average), a longer consignment window (60 to 90 days against 30 to 45) and a wider price-edit range; this page does not put a dollar figure on those.
Direct Listing: 0% seller fees, with conditions
On Direct Listing the seller sets the price and ThredUp charges a 0% seller fee, so you keep 100% of earnings (ThredUp Direct Listing page, fetched 2026-11-01). The conditions matter:
- Minimum listing price of $20, up to 30 concurrent listings.
- You ship with a prepaid label within 7 days of the sale.
- A small buyer fee is included in the buyer’s price and does not count toward your earnings; the amount is not published on the page.
- Optional Return Protection comes out of your payout if you add it; the cost is not published on the page.
- You are paid when the buyer receives and accepts the item, or automatically 4 days after delivery.
| Path | Seller fee | Seller side at $100 | Also note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct Listing | 0% | $100.00 | Buyer fee on top (amount not published; not part of earnings); you photograph, list and ship; paid on buyer acceptance or 4 days after delivery |
| Clean Out, Standard | 60% share, then $14.99 per bag | $60.00 before the fee; $45.01 if this is the bag’s only sale | ThredUp prices, photographs and lists; markdowns reduce the base |
That is $40.00 more on one item before the service fee, and $54.99 more against a single-sale Standard bag, before the buyer-side fee, any Return Protection, shipping and your own time. It is a choice with trade-offs, not a trick for raising payout. For a seller-priced contrast with a flat percentage, see Mercari seller fees (10% on item plus shipping).
Value Brands, unsold items and reclaim fees
The guide says about 5% of catalog brands are ineligible for payout (called Value Brands); if an ineligible item sells for $20 or more, you still receive a payout per the guide FAQ. A bag with only ineligible items can therefore show $0 without an error.
- Consignment window: Standard 30 to 45 days, Premium 60 to 90 days, depending on brand.
- Unsold items can be reclaimed in the final 7 days of the window for $5.99 per item plus return shipping. Eight reclaimed items would be $47.92 before return shipping, which is not published as a fixed figure.
- Uber pick-up: ThredUp’s own pages currently show different prices for it (the help page and the Clean Out guide disagree), so check the price in the app.
When ThredUp pays you and how to cash out
Clean Out earnings arrive automatically as ThredUp credit, and credit can be cashed out.
- Final-sale items: the credit posts when the item ships.
- Other items: the credit posts after the 14-day buyer return window.
- Cash-out: ThredUp’s official help pages fetched 2026-11-01 do not publish a transfer fee, so this page does not state one. Check the app before cashing out.
- Direct Listing: paid when the buyer accepts the item, or 4 days after delivery.
Informational page: not a Feebrief calculator
Feebrief’s interactive fee comparer currently covers eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, Vinted and Whatnot only. ThredUp is not in that data set, so the figures on this page are static worked examples from ThredUp’s published anchors and help pages, not a live Feebrief calculator. See resale marketplace fees compared and how Feebrief estimates seller fees. Feebrief is not affiliated with ThredUp; see the Feebrief disclosure.
What is not in these examples
- Shares between the five anchors; use ThredUp’s estimator.
- The cash-out transfer fee, the buyer fee amount on Direct Listing and the cost of Return Protection: not published on the pages used here.
- Uber pick-up price (the official pages disagree), return shipping on reclaims, and Brand Clean Out partner terms.
- Premium benefits expressed as dollars, and sales tax.

ThredUp seller payout FAQ
What percentage does ThredUp pay you for each item?
On Clean Out it depends on the final selling price. ThredUp’s guide publishes five anchors: 3% of a $5 sale ($0.15), 15% of $20 ($3), 30% of $50 ($15), 60% of $100 ($60) and 80% of $200 ($160). The share is calculated on the price the item finally sells for, after ThredUp’s markdowns and any buyer discount, so an item that is listed at $100 but sells at $50 pays $15, not $60. ThredUp does not publish a formula for prices between those anchors; the in-app earnings estimator is the official figure for other prices. On Direct Listing you set the price and ThredUp charges you 0% in seller fees.
Why was my ThredUp payout so small, or zero?
Usually the service fee. ThredUp charges $0 to send a Clean Out Kit, then deducts a $14.99 (Standard) or $34.99 (Premium) service fee from the bag’s earnings after items sell. If the bag’s only sale is $50, the 30% share is $15.00 and the fee leaves $0.01. If the only sale is $20, the share is $3.00, the fee is capped at that $3.00 and you receive $0.00, but per ThredUp’s help page you are not charged the remaining difference. Two other causes: about 5% of brands are ineligible for payout unless the item sells for $20 or more, and markdowns lower both the price and the share.
When does ThredUp pay out, and can I take it as cash?
Clean Out earnings arrive automatically as ThredUp credit. For final-sale items the credit posts when the item ships; for other items it posts after the 14-day buyer return window. You can cash out the credit; ThredUp’s official help pages fetched 2026-11-01 do not publish a transfer fee for cashing out, so this page does not state one. Direct Listing sales pay out when the buyer accepts the item, or automatically 4 days after delivery.
