Etsy seller fees (US): $0.20 + 6.5% + 3% + $0.25, plus Offsite Ads
Etsy charges a listing fee, a transaction fee, payment processing and, on attributed orders, Offsite Ads, and each is charged on a different base. This guide lists all four with what they apply to, then traces one order from sale price to payout.
Etsy fee data checked <time datetime="2026-10-31">2026-10-31</time> against the Etsy legal fees page, Etsy Payments policy and Etsy Help. Rates shown are for US sellers paid through Etsy Payments. United States, USD.

Short answer: four fees, four different bases
Etsy seller fees for a US seller paid through Etsy Payments are four separate lines, and each is charged on a different amount. Quoting “about 6.5%” leaves out most of what comes off a payout.
- Listing fee: $0.20 per listing published or renewed, charged on no sale at all.
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of item price plus shipping plus gift wrap; US sales tax is excluded.
- Payment processing: 3% + $0.25 per order on the gross order, including shipping and tax when applicable.
- Offsite Ads: 15% (opt-out allowed) or 12% (mandatory) of the order amount, only on orders attributed to an offsite ad.
On a $50 item with $5 buyer-paid shipping and no sales tax, the order-side fees are $5.48 (about 9.96% of the $55.00 order) and the payout is $49.52, after the separate $0.20 listing fee already paid.
Etsy seller fee table (US, as of Oct 2026)

| Listing fee | $0.20 flat | Each listing; independent of price | At publish or renewal; a listing lasts four months or until sold; editing is free |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | Item + shipping + gift wrap; US sales tax excluded | At sale |
| Payment processing (US bank) | 3% + $0.25 per order | Gross order, including shipping and tax when applicable | At payment |
| Offsite Ads (shop under $10k trailing 365 days) | 15% | Order amount, attributed orders only | At sale; opt-out allowed |

What each fee is charged on
The useful comparison is the base column, not the rate column. The listing fee is paid whether or not anything sells. The transaction fee and the processing fee both include buyer-paid shipping, but they differ on tax: the 6.5% excludes US sales tax and the 3% + $0.25 includes it, so the two percentages sit on bases that differ by exactly the tax amount. Offsite Ads applies to the sale amount of an attributed order and is capped at $100 per order.
Compare eBay seller fees and take-home estimator: eBay charges one final value fee on item plus shipping, plus a per-order fee, so there is no separate processing line to add.
Worked example: $50 item + $5 shipping
Examples assume a US seller on Etsy Payments with a US bank account, buyer-paid shipping included in the fee base, no gift wrap, no sales tax, no Etsy Ads, no Etsy Plus or Pattern subscription, and payout equal to the order total minus order-side fees. Each fee line is rounded half-up to the cent; Etsy’s live rounding may differ by a cent. The $0.20 listing fee is shown separately because it is charged at publish or renewal, not deducted from the order. See how Feebrief estimates seller fees.
| Line | Charged on | Rate | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Listing fee (paid at publish, not from this order) | Per listing | $0.20 flat | $0.20 sunk |
| Transaction fee | $55.00 (item + shipping) | 6.5% | $3.575, rounded to $3.58 |
| Payment processing | $55.00 (gross order) | 3% + $0.25 | $1.65 + $0.25 = $1.90 |
| Order-side fees | $5.48 | ||
| Payout before the sunk listing fee | $49.52 |
On a $50 item with $5 buyer-paid shipping and no sales tax, a US Etsy seller keeps $49.52 after the 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% + $0.25 processing fee, having already paid $0.20 to list. Counting the listing fee, total cost is $5.68, about 10.33% of the $55.00 order.
Same order with Offsite Ads attributed
| Scenario | Offsite Ads fee | Order-side fees | Payout |
|---|---|---|---|
| Not attributed | $0.00 | $5.48 | $49.52 |
| Attributed, shop under $10k (15%) | 15% × $55.00 = $8.25 | $13.73 | $41.27 |
| Attributed, shop at or above $10k (12%) | 12% × $55.00 = $6.60 (derived from the 12% rate) | $12.08 | $42.92 |
If that order came from an Offsite Ad while the shop is under $10k in trailing sales, Etsy also takes 15% of $55.00, or $8.25, and the payout drops to $41.27. That is an effective order-side rate of about 24.96%, against about 21.96% at 12%. The 12% row is our arithmetic from the published rate, not an Etsy-published example; check it against a real payout.
Offsite Ads fee: 15% or 12%, opt-out, 30-day attribution, $100 cap
Offsite Ads is the fee US sellers most often misread. These are the four rules in one place, per Etsy’s Offsite Ads help article and the legal fees page (compiled 2026-10-31):
- Under $10k in trailing 365-day shop sales: 15% on attributed orders, and you can opt out.
- At $10k or more in any 365-day window: 12% on attributed orders, and participation is mandatory thereafter. Treat the $10k threshold as a one-way door.
- Attribution: the buyer clicks an offsite ad, then orders from the shop within 30 days. If the last click is an Etsy Ads click, only the Etsy Ads cost applies.
- Cap: the fee never exceeds $100 on an individual order. At 15% that cap binds above a $666.67 sale amount; at 12%, above $833.33.
The share of a shop’s orders that are attributed is specific to each shop and is not published, so this page does not assume one.
Informational page: not a Feebrief calculator
Feebrief’s interactive fee comparer currently covers eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, Vinted and Whatnot only. Etsy is not in that data set, so the figures on this page are static worked examples from Etsy’s published fee pages, not a live Feebrief calculator. What is not in these examples
- Etsy Ads (onsite) budget: not publicly available as a rate; it is budget-based.
- Etsy Plus subscription and Pattern: no price stated here.
- Currency conversion and regulatory operating fees outside the US: not modeled; the examples assume none apply.
- Shipping label cost: depends on a carrier quote and would be a separate line.
- Payout schedule: not stated here.
- Sales tax: examples use $0; the one tax line shown is hypothetical, and the rate depends on the buyer’s state.

Etsy fees FAQ
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes, twice. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to listing price plus shipping plus gift wrap, and the 3% + $0.25 processing fee applies to the gross order including shipping. On the $50 + $5 example, the $5 of shipping adds $0.325 to the transaction fee and $0.15 to processing, about $0.48 in total. Poshmark works differently: see Poshmark seller fees (20% on item only).
Can I turn off Etsy Offsite Ads?
Only while the shop has made under $10k in the trailing 365 days. Once a shop reaches $10k in any 365-day window, participation becomes mandatory and the rate drops from 15% to 12% on attributed orders. The fee applies only when a buyer clicks an offsite ad and orders within 30 days, and never exceeds $100 on a single order.
Why is my payment processing fee charged on sales tax when the transaction fee is not?
The two fees have different bases under Etsy’s published terms as we read them: the 6.5% transaction fee excludes US sales tax, while the 3% + $0.25 processing fee is assessed on the gross order amount including shipping and tax when applicable. As a hypothetical, if the buyer also paid $4.00 sales tax, processing would be 3% × $59.00 + $0.25 = $2.02 instead of $1.90, or $0.12 more, while the transaction fee stays $3.58. The tax rate depends on the buyer’s state and is not asserted here; confirm the base wording on the Etsy Payments policy.
