Etsy fee calculator (US): the math by hand, with Offsite Ads on or off

This is the static equivalent of an Etsy fee calculator: every fee line with its base, one order traced to a payout with Offsite Ads off and on, a net grid at four prices, and the reverse formula for the list price that nets a target.

Etsy fee data checked <time datetime="2026-10-31">2026-10-31</time> against the Etsy legal fees page, Etsy Payments policy and Etsy Help. Rates shown are for US sellers paid through Etsy Payments. United States, USD.

All figures on this page are static worked examples; Feebrief does not run a live Etsy calculator. Feebrief is not affiliated with Etsy and is not an official calculator.

Short answer: $50 item + $5 shipping pays out $49.52, or $41.27 with Offsite Ads

This page does the arithmetic an Etsy fee calculator would, written out so you can check it against your own payout. A US seller on Etsy Payments pays a 6.5% transaction fee and a 3% + $0.25 processing fee on item plus shipping, plus a $0.20 listing fee at publish, plus Offsite Ads on attributed orders.

A $50 item with $5 buyer-paid shipping and no sales tax pays out $49.52 with Offsite Ads off, $41.27 at 15% and $42.92 at 12%. This is static math, not a tool: there are no inputs on this page.

The four lines any Etsy fee calculator should show

Etsy fee lines with rate, base and timing
FeeRateCharged onWhen charged
Listing fee$0.20No sale; per listingAt publish or renewal
Transaction fee6.5%Item + shipping + gift wrap; US sales tax excludedAt sale
Payment processing (Etsy Payments, US bank)3% + $0.25 per orderGross order including shipping, and tax when applicableAt payment
Offsite Ads15% under $10k trailing 365 days (opt-out); 12% at $10k+ (mandatory)Attributed orders only; max $100 per orderAt sale

Sources: Etsy legal fees, Etsy Payments policy, Etsy Help on fees and taxes and Offsite Ads help, compiled 2026-10-31. Tax enters the processing base but not the transaction base, which is why most single “sale price” boxes get it slightly wrong.

Forward example: $50 item + $5 shipping, Offsite Ads off

Examples assume a US seller on Etsy Payments with a US bank account, buyer-paid shipping included in both percentage bases, no gift wrap, no sales tax, no Etsy Ads, no Etsy Plus or Pattern subscription, and payout equal to the order total minus order-side fees. The $0.20 listing fee is shown separately because it is charged at publish or renewal, not deducted from the order. Each fee line is rounded half-up to the cent before summing; that is our assumption, and Etsy’s live rounding may differ by a cent. See how Feebrief estimates seller fees.

Etsy forward example, Offsite Ads off
LineCharged onRateAmount
Listing fee (paid at publish, not from this order)Per listing$0.20 flat$0.20 sunk
Transaction fee$55.00 (item + shipping)6.5%$3.575, rounded to $3.58
Payment processing$55.00 (gross order)3% + $0.25$1.65 + $0.25 = $1.90
Offsite AdsNot attributed0%$0.00
Order-side fees$5.48
Payout before the sunk listing fee$49.52

On a $50 item with $5 buyer-paid shipping and no sales tax, a US Etsy seller keeps $49.52 after the 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% + $0.25 processing fee, having already paid $0.20 to list.

Same order with Offsite Ads on: 15% under $10k, 12% at $10k+

Same order with Offsite Ads off and on at two rates
ScenarioOffsite Ads feeOrder-side feesPayout
Off (not attributed)$0.00$5.48$49.52
On, shop under $10k trailing 365 days (15%, opt-out allowed)15% × $55.00 = $8.25$13.73$41.27
On, shop at or above $10k (12%, mandatory)12% × $55.00 = $6.60 (derived from the 12% rate)$12.08$42.92

If the order came from an Offsite Ad while the shop is under $10k in trailing sales, Etsy also takes $8.25 and the payout drops to $41.27. At $10k and above the rate is 12%, the fee is $6.60 and the payout is $42.92. The “toggle” here is a table column, not a control. The 12% row is our arithmetic from the published rate; check it against a real payout.

Static net at $10, $25, $50 and $100 (shipping $0)

$100$6.50$3.25$90.25$75.25$78.25

Read across the row nearest your price. Shipping and tax are $0, and the $0.20 listing fee is not deducted. The 15% and 12% columns apply only if the order is attributed to an Offsite Ad. The Offsite columns and the grid are derived from the published rates with the half-up rounding stated above; they are not Etsy-published examples.

Reverse: what to list at to net $40

Tools mostly answer “what do I keep from $X”. Pricing needs the reverse. With shipping $0 and tax $0, the list price p that nets N is:

p = (N + $0.25) ÷ (1 − 0.065 − 0.03 − a), where a is the Offsite Ads rate (0, 0.15 or 0.12)

Etsy list price needed to net 40 dollars under four scenarios
ScenarioDivisorContinuous answerList atForward check (lines rounded half-up)Net
Offsite off, ignore sunk listing0.905$44.475$44.48$2.89 + $1.58 = $4.47$40.01
Offsite off, also recover the $0.20 listing (N = $40.20)0.905$44.696$44.70$2.91 + $1.59 = $4.50; $40.20 − $0.20$40.00
Offsite on at 15%0.755$53.311$53.32$3.47 + $1.85 + $8.00 = $13.32$40.00
Offsite on at 12%0.785$51.274$51.27$3.33 + $1.79 + $6.15 = $11.27$40.00

To clear $40.00 with Offsite Ads off, list at $44.48: add the $0.25 fixed processing fee to your target and divide by 0.905. $44.47 also lands on exactly $40.00 under per-line half-up rounding, so the continuous answer $44.475 means “$44.47 or $44.48”; $44.48 is the safe figure because it clears $40 under either rounding convention. To clear $40.00 after the $0.20 listing fee as well, list at $44.70. In the 15% Offsite Ads band with an attributed order, the same $40 needs $53.32.

Each fee line is rounded half-up to the cent before summing. Etsy’s live rounding may differ by a cent; the reverse answers are rounded up so the target is cleared either way. See how Feebrief estimates seller fees. A list price applies to every buyer, so the Offsite rows over-recover on orders that are not attributed.

Shipping and sales tax change the base, not the formula

Shipping s sits in both percentage bases, so net from the order is 0.905(p + s) − $0.25. Each $1 of buyer-paid shipping costs the seller $0.095 in fees.

This page is static math, not a live Feebrief calculator

Feebrief’s interactive fee comparer currently covers eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, Vinted and Whatnot only. Etsy is not in that data set, so the figures on this page are static worked examples from Etsy’s published fee pages, not a live Feebrief calculator. We will say so here if that changes. For a live example of what a Feebrief estimator looks like, see the eBay seller fees and take-home estimator; for the platforms covered, see resale marketplace fees compared and how Feebrief estimates seller fees. Feebrief is not affiliated with Etsy and is not an official calculator; see the Feebrief disclosure. Rates change; confirm on the linked Etsy pages before pricing.

Etsy fee calculator FAQ

Why isn’t there an Etsy calculator on this page?

Feebrief’s interactive comparer is built from a fee data set that covers eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, Vinted and Whatnot. Etsy is not in that data set, so there is no live Etsy estimator here. The tables above are static arithmetic from Etsy’s published US fee pages and are dated; use them by finding the row nearest your price or by applying the reverse formula. See resale marketplace fees compared and how Feebrief estimates seller fees.

How much of my buyer’s shipping charge do I actually keep?

About $0.905 of every $1, because both the 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% processing fee are charged on item plus shipping. On the $50 + $5 example, the $5 of shipping costs roughly $0.48 in fees. The $0.25 fixed processing fee is per order, so it does not grow with shipping. For contrast, see Poshmark seller fees (20% on item only).

Which Offsite Ads rate should I use, 15% or 12%, and can I just leave it off?

Use 15% if the shop has made under $10k in the trailing 365 days; at that level you can opt out and the fee is $0 on every order. Once the shop reaches $10k in any 365-day window, participation is mandatory and the rate is 12% on orders attributed to an Offsite Ad within 30 days of the click, capped at $100 per order. For pricing, plan with the rate that applies to your shop and assume some orders will be attributed; the reverse table gives the list price for all three cases.
