Etsy vs Poshmark fees: $0.20 + 6.5% + 3% + $0.25 on item + shipping vs 20% on item only

Etsy splits its fees into four lines charged on item plus shipping, and Poshmark bundles everything into one 20% commission charged on the item only. Comparing “6.5% vs 20%” misleads. This page works the same $50 item both ways, handles the shipping label honestly, and shows where Offsite Ads flips the answer.

Etsy fee data checked against the Etsy legal fees page, Etsy Payments policy and Offsite Ads help; Poshmark fee data last checked from the Poshmark Fee Policy. United States, USD.

Short answer: Poshmark’s percentage is higher, Etsy’s fees usually are not

On the same $50 item with $5 buyer-paid shipping and no sales tax, a US seller banks $44.32 on Etsy after the $0.20 listing, 6.5% transaction fee and 3% + $0.25 processing fee on the $55.00 order, and after spending the $5 shipping charge on the label. On Poshmark the seller banks $40.00 after the 20% commission on the item, and the buyer pays Poshmark’s label directly. Etsy keeps $4.32 more.

If the Etsy order came from an Offsite Ad, Etsy also takes 15% or 12% of $55.00, Etsy banks $36.07 or $37.72, and Poshmark keeps $3.93 or $2.28 more instead. Assumptions: US, tax $0, the Etsy shipping charge equals the label cost. Etsy’s always-on fees are lower; Offsite Ads is what can flip the result.

What each percentage is charged on, and who pays the label

Two different bases sit behind the two headline percentages. For the full Etsy breakdown, see Etsy seller fees explained (what each fee is charged on).

Same sale on both: $50 item + $5 shipping

Hero basket: $50 item, $5 buyer-paid shipping on Etsy, order total $55.00, no gift wrap, no sales tax, one Etsy listing attributed to this sale. On Poshmark the buyer pays Poshmark’s label separately. Each fee line is rounded half-up to the cent; live invoices may differ by a cent.

The $5 label line is an assumption, not a quoted carrier price. If your label costs more or less than what you charge, move the Etsy figure by that difference. If an Etsy seller offers free shipping and absorbs the label, the item-only net falls by the full label cost.

Under $15 Poshmark’s flat $2.95 costs a $12 item 24.6% and a $14.99 item 19.7%, so the flat fee narrows Etsy’s lead without reversing it. The $14.99 vs $15.00 arithmetic is on Poshmark seller fees and take-home estimator.

Why Etsy’s always-on fees stay below Poshmark’s, and when they do not

Etsy’s two percentages sum to 9.5% plus $0.25 per order, plus the $0.20 listing, charged on item plus shipping. Poshmark charges 20% on the item alone. With item price P at $15 or more and $5 of shipping passed through to the label:

Etsy fees = 0.095(P + $5) + $0.45, Poshmark fee = 0.20P, so Poshmark costs 0.105P − $0.925 more.

Estimate the Poshmark side live; the Etsy side is static

Feebrief’s interactive fee comparer currently covers eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, Vinted and Whatnot only. The Poshmark column on this page can be checked live on our Poshmark seller fees and take-home estimator. Etsy is not in that data set, so the Etsy column is static arithmetic from Etsy’s published fee pages, not a live Feebrief calculator. See resale marketplace fees compared and how Feebrief estimates seller fees. Examples assume a US seller, no sales tax, Etsy Payments with a US bank account, no gift wrap, no Etsy Ads, one $0.20 listing fee attributed to the sale, and an Etsy shipping charge equal to the label cost so that shipping passes through. Poshmark examples use the US default schedule with basic selling, no seller-paid shipping discount, and the buyer paying Poshmark’s shipping. Offsite Ads rows show the fee only if the order is attributed. Feebrief is not affiliated with Etsy or Poshmark; see the Feebrief disclosure.

Etsy vs Poshmark fees FAQ

Is Poshmark’s 20% really higher than Etsy’s fees?

As a percentage yes, as dollars on the same item usually no. Etsy’s always-on fees are a $0.20 listing, 6.5% transaction and 3% + $0.25 processing on item plus shipping, about 9.5% plus $0.45 fixed. Poshmark’s 20% is charged on the item only with processing included. On a $50 item with $5 shipping a US seller banks $44.32 on Etsy and $40.00 on Poshmark. The order reverses whenever the Etsy sale is attributed to an Offsite Ad at 15% or 12% ($36.07 or $37.72 on Etsy against $40.00 on Poshmark), and Offsite Ads becomes mandatory once a shop reaches $10k in trailing 365-day sales.

Does either platform charge fees on shipping, and who pays the label?

Etsy charges both its 6.5% and its 3% + $0.25 on the buyer-paid shipping, so $5 of shipping costs about $0.48 in fees, and the seller then buys the label out of that $5. On Poshmark the buyer pays Poshmark’s shipping charge, the seller gets a prepaid label, and the shipping money does not enter the seller’s payout or the 20% base as Feebrief’s fee data describes it. If a Poshmark seller offers discounted shipping on an offer, the seller pays the difference; that amount is not in these examples.

What happens to a sale under $15 on Poshmark compared with Etsy?

Poshmark replaces the 20% with a flat $2.95 when the sale price is under $15, so a $12 item pays 24.6% and a $14.99 item pays 19.7%, while a $15.00 item pays $3.00. Etsy has no threshold; a $12 item with $5 shipping pays $1.87 in order-side fees plus the $0.20 listing, and the seller banks $9.93 after the label against $9.05 on Poshmark. The flat fee narrows Etsy’s lead but does not reverse it without Offsite Ads.
