Poshmark vs Whatnot fees: 20% tier vs 8% live plus processing

With shipping at $0, Whatnot’s 8% commission plus 2.9% + $0.30 processing comes to 10.9% + $0.30. That is below Poshmark’s 20% at every price from $15 up and below its flat $2.95 under $15, so Whatnot nets more and there is no breakeven. Whatnot numbers use the Standard tier; data confidence is medium, so verify on help.whatnot.com before you price.

How it works

  1. Enter your expected sale price (and buyer-paid shipping if you know it).
  2. We apply each platform’s published seller-side fee assumptions.

Short answer: Whatnot keeps more at every price we model

With shipping at $0, Whatnot’s 8% commission plus 2.9% + $0.30 processing comes to 10.9% + $0.30, which is below Poshmark’s 20% at every price from $15 up and below Poshmark’s flat $2.95 at every price under $15. Whatnot nets more at $25, $50 and $100, by $1.97, $4.25 and $8.80. There is no breakeven price for this pair.

The real gap is smaller than “20% vs 8%” suggests, because Whatnot’s processing is a separate line. It is the opposite result to Mercari vs Whatnot, where Mercari’s 10% all-in sits just below Whatnot. This is fee math only; a Poshmark listing and a live Whatnot show sell differently.

What each fee is charged on

Poshmark charges its $2.95 flat fee or 20% commission on the item price, with processing included. Whatnot charges 8% on the item price and 2.9% + $0.30 processing on item plus buyer-paid shipping. The worked examples below assume shipping is $0, so every base is just the item price.

Take-home at $25, $50 and $100 (shipping $0)

$100$20.00$80.00$11.20$88.80$8.80

Each fee component is rounded to the cent: Whatnot’s $25 fee is $2.00 commission plus $1.03 processing (0.725 + 0.30 = 1.025), so $3.03 and a $21.97 net. Estimates use Whatnot’s Standard rate for Fashion and similar categories, assume no promotions, set shipping to $0 so every fee base equals item price, and set payout equal to item price minus seller-side fees. When the buyer pays shipping, Poshmark’s 20% applies to the item price; Whatnot applies 8% to the item and 2.9% + $0.30 to item plus shipping. See how Feebrief estimates seller fees.

Why there is no breakeven, in either Poshmark tier

For a breakeven to exist, Whatnot’s fee would have to catch up with Poshmark somewhere inside one of Poshmark’s two tiers. Neither equality lands in the tier it would apply to:

$15 and up: 0.109p + 0.30 = 0.20p only at p ≈ $3.30, which is below $15

Under $15: 0.109p + 0.30 = 2.95 only at p ≈ $24.31, which is above $15

Example at $10: Whatnot’s fee is $1.39 (0.80 + 0.29 + 0.30) against Poshmark’s $2.95. The same fee structures land differently in other pairs:

What the fee gap does not tell you

This comparison assumes the same sale price on both platforms. Live selling changes sell-through, time per sale and the price an item typically reaches, and this page does not model any of those. Buyer-paid shipping narrows the fee gap slightly, because Whatnot’s processing applies to it and Poshmark’s 20% does not: a $50 item with $10 shipping costs $6.04 on Whatnot (4.00 + 1.74 + 0.30) against $10.00 on Poshmark.

Assumptions

Sold item; seller pays listed seller-side fees; shipping collected separately and not deducted unless platform mandates otherwise; no promotions/subscriptions unless noted.

How the numbers are built
  • The sale is treated as already completed.
  • Seller net starts from the sale price. Buyer-paid shipping is not added to the payout, and shipping you pay yourself is not subtracted.
  • A fee includes buyer-paid shipping only when that schedule’s base says so. Sales tax is never an input, even where the real fee base includes it.
  • Boosted or promoted listings, store subscriptions, and optional cash-out fees are left out unless the selected schedule includes them.
  • If payment processing is included in the platform fee, the payment column says Included and is not subtracted again.
  • Platforms without a schedule for the selected market are hidden. US rates are not copied onto the UK.
  • Each fee component is rounded to the nearest cent.

Seller net = sale price − platform fee − payment fee − other deductions. “Included” and “None” count as zero and are not subtracted again.

List once, sell on more marketplaces

You just compared estimated take-home across apps. If you list on more than one marketplace, a crosslisting tool can push the same title, photos, and price so you type less — and can auto-delist when an item sells. Pick a tool only after you’ve chosen where the fee math makes sense.

Feebrief is free. Crosslisting tool links may be affiliate links. Affiliate disclosure

Is a crosslisting tool worth it?

If you already sell on two or more apps, the time you save retyping listings (and avoiding double-sales with auto-delist) is usually the reason people pay for a crosslister — not because it changes marketplace fees. Fees still come from eBay, Poshmark, and the rest; Feebrief helps you pick where to list, then a crosslister helps you list everywhere faster.

Poshmark vs Whatnot FAQ

Is the real gap 20% vs 8%?

No. Whatnot’s 8% is the commission only, and 2.9% + $0.30 processing is a separate line, so the all-in rate at shipping $0 is 10.9% + $0.30. Against Poshmark’s 20% the gap is about 9 points less $0.30, which is $8.80 on a $100 item.

Does Whatnot still win on items under $15?

Yes, with shipping at $0. Poshmark charges a flat $2.95 under $15, and Whatnot’s fee only reaches $2.95 at about $24.31, so Whatnot is cheaper across the whole under-$15 band. On a $10 item Whatnot’s fee is $1.39 against Poshmark’s $2.95.

Does a lower fee mean more money from Whatnot overall?

Not necessarily. This page compares fees on the same sale price and does not model sell-through, time per sale or typical price in a live show. Use the calculator for the fee part; the rest is outside what Feebrief measures.
