The RealReal seller commission (US): 20% to 85% of Net Selling Price by category and band
At The RealReal the word commission means the seller’s share: the chart gives the percentage the consignor receives, not the percentage the platform keeps. The rate depends on the item’s category and the price it sold for. This page reproduces the Earnings Guide by category and works the arithmetic. It is a static guide, not a live calculator.
The RealReal commission data captured 2026-11-01 from the Earnings Guide (therealreal.com/seller/commissions) and the resources article on how to sell. The consignor terms and site-credit terms could not be loaded directly that day, so figures from them are attributed as indexed. United States, USD.
Feebrief is not affiliated with The RealReal and is not an official calculator. Commission rates, bands and Rewards tiers change; confirm on the linked RealReal pages before consigning.
Short answer: your commission is a percentage of the Net Selling Price, set by category and price band
On The RealReal the commission is the share you receive: Net Selling Price × a rate read from your item’s category and sold-price band, from 20% under $100 up to 85% at the top Watches and Men’s Sneakers & Collectibles bands. A 55% commission means the consignor receives 55% and The RealReal keeps 45%. This is the percentage the consignor gets, not the platform’s cut.
Every category tab starts at 20% under $100 and pays 55% from $200 to $299, then they diverge: Clothing & More tops out at 70%, Handbags at 80%, Branded Fine Jewelry at 70%, Watches at 85% and Men’s Sneakers & Collectibles at 85%. RealReal Rewards adds 1, 2 or 5 percentage points on items of $200 or more once annual Net Sales reach the Influencer, Tastemaker or VIP thresholds; Trendsetter gets no bonus and items under $200 stay at the base rate. US consignors, USD.
The RealReal commission chart by category (US, captured 2026-11-01)
These tables reproduce the bands on The RealReal’s Earnings Guide, captured 2026-11-01, at the Trendsetter base rate. Every percentage is what the consignor receives. The Guide prints its band edges as shown and does not say how an amount between two printed bands, such as $99.50, is treated, so we do not state a rule for the gaps.

Same price, five tabs: why category matters
| Net Selling Price | Clothing & More | Handbags | Branded Fine Jewelry | Watches | Men’s Sneakers & Collectibles |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $400 | 60% → $240.00 | 60% → $240.00 | 65% → $260.00 | 60% → $240.00 | 65% → $260.00 |
| $1,000 | 65% → $650.00 | 65% → $650.00 | 70% → $700.00 | 70% → $700.00 | 85% → $850.00 |
| $6,000 | 70% → $4,200.00 | 75% → $4,500.00 | 70% → $4,200.00 | 80% → $4,800.00 | 85% → $5,100.00 |
Each cell is the Guide rate for that tab’s band multiplied by the price. At $1,000 the spread runs from 65% to 85%, and at $6,000 from 70% to 85%, so the “up to 85%” figure only describes the top bands of two tabs.
Worked example: $250 Clothing & More sale, Trendsetter
| Line | Charged on | Rate | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net Selling Price | Sold price less discounts; excludes tax and shipping (per the consignor terms as indexed) | - | $250.00 |
| Seller commission | $250.00 | 55% (Clothing & More, $200 to $299 band) | $137.50 |
| The RealReal keeps (residual) | $250.00 | 45% | $112.50 |
Consign a piece of clothing on The RealReal and it sells for a $250 Net Selling Price. As a Trendsetter consignor the Clothing & More chart puts that sale in the $200 to $299 band at 55%, so your commission is $137.50 and The RealReal keeps $112.50. The residual is shown for clarity; it is not a published fee. The 45% buys authentication, photography, pricing and listing, a different service from Poshmark seller fees (20% on item only), where you list and price the item yourself.
Examples assume a US consignor, Trendsetter status unless a tier is named, a Net Selling Price with no discount, tax or shipping in the base, the Earnings Guide rate for the named category and band, and the Rewards bonus treated as percentage points added to the chart rate on items of $200 or more. Each amount is rounded half-up to the cent. See how Feebrief estimates seller fees.
Same sale with a RealReal Rewards bonus
| Status | Net Sales in the Commission Window | Loyalty bonus on items $200+ |
|---|---|---|
| Trendsetter | Under $1,499 | None |
| Influencer | $1,500 to $4,999 | +1% |
| Tastemaker | $5,000 to $9,999 | +2% |
| VIP | $10,000+ | +5% |
| Status | Rate | Commission | The RealReal keeps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trendsetter | 55% | $137.50 | $112.50 |
| Influencer | 56% | $140.00 | $110.00 |
| Tastemaker | 57% | $142.50 | $107.50 |
| VIP | 60% | $150.00 | $100.00 |
We read the bonus as percentage points added to the chart rate, which is how the Earnings Guide wording reads; confirm on the live page. The Guide says the bonus applies to items of $200 or more, based on your loyalty tier at the time the item sold, so a $150 Clothing & More item pays 45%, or $67.50, at every status. The Guide prints the Trendsetter tier as under $1,499 and Influencer from $1,500 and does not say where an amount between them falls.
Band edges: one dollar can move the rate 10 to 15 points
Because The RealReal sets the price, the consignor does not control which side of a band edge an item sells on. On Clothing & More, Trendsetter, no discount:
| Sold price | Band rate | Commission | Change for $1 more price |
|---|---|---|---|
| $99 | 20% | $19.80 | - |
| $100 | 30% | $30.00 | +$10.20 (about 52% more) |
| $149 | 30% | $44.70 | - |
| $150 | 45% | $67.50 | +$22.80 |
| $199 | 45% | $89.55 | - |
| $200 | 55% | $110.00 | +$20.45 |
Higher bands behave the same way. The Guide labels its axis “Sold Price” while the formula uses the Net Selling Price after discounts, and we have not confirmed which figure sets the band, so this page does not model a markdown moving an item between bands.
What the commission is charged on: Net Selling Price
Per The RealReal’s consignor terms as indexed on 2026-11-01 (we could not load the page directly that day, so confirm the wording on the live page), commission equals the Net Selling Price multiplied by the commission rate. Net Selling Price is the sold price less discounts and promotions, and excludes taxes and shipping. Net Sales for Rewards tiering is the sum of Net Selling Prices in the Commission Window. Because The RealReal prices the item and sets markdowns, a discount shrinks the base even when the band does not change.

Informational page: not a Feebrief calculator
Feebrief’s interactive fee comparer currently covers eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, Vinted and Whatnot only. The RealReal is not in that data set, so the figures on this page are static worked examples from The RealReal’s published Earnings Guide and terms, not a live Feebrief calculator. See resale marketplace fees compared and how Feebrief estimates seller fees. Feebrief is not affiliated with The RealReal; see the Feebrief disclosure.
What is not in these examples
- Shipping or pickup costs to the consignor, and the treatment of commission on returns and cancellations: not published on the pages used here.
- The check processing fee amount, Commission Window dates, authentication rejections and any non-US schedule.
- Markdown scenarios that cross a band edge (the band basis is unconfirmed) and sales tax.

The RealReal seller commission FAQ
How much commission does The RealReal pay sellers?
A percentage of the Net Selling Price that depends on the item’s category and the price it sold for. Every category pays 20% under $100 and 55% from $200 to $299. Above $300 the tabs diverge: Clothing & More tops out at 70% over $5,000, Handbags at 80% over $7,500, Branded Fine Jewelry at 70% over $750, Watches at 85% over $7,500, and Men’s Sneakers & Collectibles at 85% over $1,000. A $250 clothing sale pays $137.50 to a Trendsetter consignor. “Up to 85%” is true only for the top band of the Watches and Men’s Sneakers & Collectibles tabs; confirm any marketing figure against the Earnings Guide.
Is The RealReal commission calculated on the discounted price?
Per the consignor terms as indexed on 2026-11-01, yes: Net Selling Price is the sold price less discounts and promotions, excluding taxes and shipping, and the commission is Net Selling Price multiplied by the chart rate. We could not load the terms page directly, so confirm the wording on the live page. The RealReal sets the price and the markdowns, so a discount shrinks the base. Whether a discount can also move an item into a lower band depends on which price sets the band, which we have not confirmed.
When does The RealReal pay out, and does the loyalty bonus apply to every item?
Per the consignor terms as indexed, payment processing typically begins on the 15th of the month for the prior calendar month’s sales, by direct deposit, Site Credit or paper check, and electing Site Credit increases the cash commission by 5% under the site-credit terms; confirm both on the live pages. The RealReal Rewards bonus of +1%, +2% or +5% applies only to items of $200 or more and only once annual Net Sales reach $1,500; Trendsetter consignors and items under $200 receive the base chart rate.
