Facebook Marketplace seller fees (US): $0 local pickup, 10% (min $0.80) shipped

Facebook Marketplace’s seller cost depends on how you sell: nothing from Meta for local pickup paid in person, and 10% of the total transaction value with a $0.80 minimum for shipped orders through onsite checkout. This guide shows what the 10% is charged on and when you get paid.

Short answer: $0 for local pickup, 10% when you ship through Meta checkout

Facebook Marketplace seller fees are a fork, not a single rate. If you sell locally and take payment in person, no Meta selling fee is listed. If you ship the item and the buyer pays through Meta’s onsite checkout, Meta charges 10% of the total transaction value (item plus shipping plus applicable taxes), with a $0.80 minimum per order, and the prepaid shipping label comes out of your payout.

Sell a $40 item locally and Meta takes nothing; ship it with $8 buyer-paid shipping and Meta takes $4.80, leaving $43.20 before the label.

Sources: Meta Help: selling fees, Meta merchant policies and Meta shipping terms, checked 2026-10-31 (shipping terms page last updated 2026-08-31). We could not tie the local $0 row to a dedicated Meta sentence, so it is worded as “no selling fee listed” and rests on the shipping-fee article; check Meta’s page before relying on it. Figures are for US individual sellers; Business, Shops and Commerce Manager fee schedules are not covered.

What the 10% is charged on

The 10% is on the total the buyer pays, not the item price alone. On the worked basket below, $4.80 is 10% of $48 but 12% of the $40 item, which is why sellers who price by item think the help page is wrong. The base also includes applicable taxes, so a seller pays fee on money that passes through to the tax authority.

Worked example: $40 item + $8 shipping, shipped with onsite checkout

Examples assume a US individual seller, buyer-paid shipping included in the fee base, no sales tax unless marked hypothetical, a prepaid Meta label whose cost is shown as a separate deduction rather than a dollar figure, and seller side equal to the total transaction value minus the selling fee. See how Feebrief estimates seller fees.

Selling a $40 item for local pickup costs you nothing in Meta fees. Ship the same item with $8 buyer-paid shipping through Meta’s onsite checkout and Meta takes 10% of the $48 total, or $4.80, leaving $43.20 before the prepaid label is deducted.

Shipped, onsite checkout$48.00$4.80Deducted$43.20 before labelPayout initiated about 15 days after marked shipped, or 5 days after delivery confirmation

On this basket, shipped nets $43.20 minus the label cost L, and local nets $40.00, so shipped is ahead only while L is under $3.20. That shows why the label line matters; it is not a recommendation, because the buyer pool differs between the two paths.

The $0.80 minimum: when a shipped order pays more than 10%

Ten percent of the total falls below $0.80 at totals under $8.00, so on those orders the $0.80 minimum applies and the effective rate exceeds 10%. At exactly $8.00 the two meet.

Facebook Marketplace fees FAQ

Does Facebook Marketplace charge the 10% on shipping and sales tax too?

Yes. The fee is 10% of the total transaction value, which Meta describes as item price plus shipping plus applicable taxes. On a $40 item with $8 shipping and no tax, the fee is $4.80, which is 10% of $48 and 12% of the $40 item. If the buyer also pays sales tax, the fee is charged on that amount as well: with a hypothetical $3.00 tax line the base becomes $51.00 and the fee $5.10, or $0.30 extra. The tax rate depends on the buyer’s state and is not asserted here. See Poshmark seller fees (20% on item only) for a platform whose fee base excludes shipping.

Why was I charged more than 10% on a cheap item?

The selling fee has a $0.80 minimum per order. Below an $8.00 total, 10% would be under $0.80, so Meta charges $0.80 instead; a $5.00 total pays $0.80, or 16%. Sales paid in person outside onsite checkout have no Meta selling fee listed at any price.

How long does Facebook Marketplace take to pay me after I ship?

Per the Meta Help selling fees article, payouts are often initiated 15 days after the item is marked shipped, or 5 days after delivery is confirmed, and it can take up to about 20 days in total for funds to reach your bank. The prepaid label cost is deducted before payout. A local pickup sale paid in person has no payout wait. Confirm the current wording on the live Meta page.
