eBay vs Mercari fees: take-home comparison
General resellers often cross-check eBay against Mercari. For most eBay categories we model about 13.6% final value fee on the total amount plus a per-order fee; Mercari’s US selling fee is about 10% of item + buyer-paid shipping on the current schedule. Enter a sale price to see which estimated net is higher for your number.
How it works
- Enter your expected sale price (and buyer-paid shipping if you know it).
- We apply each platform’s published seller-side fee assumptions.
- Compare estimated fees and take-home side by side—then confirm on the platform before you list.
Both fee bases can include buyer-paid shipping—so shipping assumptions matter more than on Poshmark-style item-only commission. eBay adds a small per-order fixed fee ($0.30 / $0.40 by order size in our file) and varies by category; Mercari’s default is a single ~10% selling fee with processing included for modeled listings, and Buyer Protection stays on the buyer. Confirm on eBay Selling fees and Mercari’s fees article before you price.

Seller net = sale price − platform fee − payment fee − other deductions. “Included” and “None” count as zero and are not subtracted again.
List once, sell on more marketplaces
You just compared estimated take-home across apps. If you list on more than one marketplace, a crosslisting tool can push the same title, photos, and price so you type less — and can auto-delist when an item sells. Pick a tool only after you’ve chosen where the fee math makes sense.
Disclosure: Feebrief is free. Some outbound links to crosslisting tools are affiliate links — if you sign up or subscribe after clicking, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We don’t charge for using this calculator, and we don’t let affiliate partners change the fee estimates.
Is a crosslisting tool worth it?
If you already sell on two or more apps, the time you save retyping listings (and avoiding double-sales with auto-delist) is usually the reason people pay for a crosslister — not because it changes marketplace fees. Fees still come from eBay, Poshmark, and the rest; Feebrief helps you pick where to list, then a crosslister helps you list everywhere faster.
| Vendoo (approx.) | Crosslist (approx.) | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry monthly plan | From ~$14.99/mo (Starter) | From ~$29.99/mo (Bronze; listing caps by plan) |
| Listing model | Unlimited items on plans we reviewed | New-listing caps on lower plans; higher tiers raise or remove caps |
| Trial / guarantee | 14-day trial (vendor terms) | Money-back window on first purchase (vendor terms) |
| Best when | You want a lower entry price and mobile app workflow | You want their feature set / marketplace mix at their list prices |
Prices are approximate from each vendor’s public pricing page at time of writing and change often. Confirm on Vendoo and Crosslist before you subscribe. Links below may be affiliate links.
Frequently asked questions
Is Mercari always cheaper than eBay for sellers?
Often the ~10% Mercari selling fee looks lower than eBay’s ~13.6% FVF + per-order fee, but bases, categories, and shipping change the ranking. Run your price above, then confirm officially.
Does Mercari Buyer Protection come out of my seller net here?
No—modeled as buyer-paid, not a seller deduction.
Does shipping count toward seller fees?
It depends on the marketplace. Some fee bases include buyer-paid shipping (and sometimes tax); others charge mainly on the item price. Feebrief follows each platform’s published seller-side rules in our fee file and shows assumptions next to the calculator. Shipping you pay out of pocket to ship the item is generally not modeled as a deduction unless noted.
Is Feebrief an official calculator for eBay, Mercari, or the other apps?
No. Feebrief is an independent estimate for sellers. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with eBay, Mercari, Poshmark, Depop, Vinted, or Whatnot as an official fee tool. Always check the marketplace’s own help pages and your seller dashboard for the amount that will actually be deducted.
Why might Feebrief’s number differ from what the app shows at checkout?
Published rates change, and your real deduction can depend on category, seller level, promotions, store subscriptions, promoted listings, tax handling, and order composition. We use simplified seller-side schedules in fees.json with a last-reviewed date. Treat the result as a planning estimate, then verify in the platform before you price or list.
Do these estimates include promotions, ads, or subscription discounts?
Usually no. Unless a note in the breakdown says otherwise, we exclude promoted/boosted listing fees, optional ads, store subscription discounts, one-off penalties, and most promos. If you run ads or pay for a seller subscription, your net can be lower (or occasionally improved by a promo) than the estimate.
