How Much Does Etsy Take From a Sale?
Etsy takes 6.5% of item plus shipping plus gift wrap, plus 3% + $0.25 of the order, plus 15% or 12% more if Offsite Ads is attributed. On a $50 item with $5 shipping that is $5.48 of $55.00, or 9.96%, with no ads attributed.
Etsy fee data checked against the Etsy legal fees page, Etsy Payments policy, Etsy Help and the Offsite Ads help article. US sellers paid through Etsy Payments, USD.

Short answer: $5.48 (9.96%) with no ads, $13.73 (24.96%) with 15% Offsite Ads
The formula is 6.5% × (item + shipping + gift wrap) + 3% × order + $0.25, plus Offsite Ads (15% or 12% of the order) only if the order is attributed to an offsite ad. On a $50 item + $5 shipping (sales tax $0), Etsy takes $5.48 of the $55.00 order, or 9.96%. With a 15% Offsite Ads fee it takes $13.73, or 24.96%.
Scope: US seller, Etsy Payments, USD. This page covers Etsy’s published seller fees only. It does not model income tax or on-site Etsy Ads spend. For the full schedule see Etsy seller fees (US); for the wider hub see resale marketplace fees compared.
What Etsy takes on a $55 order
Assumptions: $50 item, $5 buyer-paid shipping, no gift wrap, no sales tax, no Etsy Ads, no Etsy Plus or Pattern subscription. Each fee line is rounded half-up to the cent before summing; Etsy’s live rounding may differ by a cent. “Payout” is the order total minus order-side fees, before the sunk $0.20 listing fee. See how Feebrief estimates seller fees.
| Scenario | Transaction 6.5% | Processing 3% + $0.25 | Offsite Ads | Etsy takes | Take % | Payout |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| No Offsite Ads attributed | $3.58 | $1.90 | $0.00 | $5.48 | 9.96% | $49.52 |
| Attributed, shop under $10k (15%) | $3.58 | $1.90 | $8.25 | $13.73 | 24.96% | $41.27 |
| Attributed, shop at $10k+ (12%) | $3.58 | $1.90 | $6.60 | $12.08 | 21.96% | $42.92 |
Transaction is 6.5% × $55.00 = $3.575, rounded to $3.58. Processing is 3% × $55.00 + $0.25 = $1.90. The 12% row is our arithmetic from the published rate, not an Etsy-published example.
The fee lines behind that number
| Fee | Rate | Source (as of 2026-10-31) |
|---|---|---|
| Listing | $0.20 per listing published or renewed; sunk, not taken from a sale | Etsy legal fees |
| Transaction | 6.5% of item + shipping + gift wrap; US sales tax excluded | Etsy legal fees, Etsy Help on fees and taxes |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 per order on the gross order, including shipping and tax when applicable | Etsy Payments policy |
| Offsite Ads | 15% under $10k trailing 365 days (opt-out allowed); 12% at $10k+ (mandatory); capped at $100 per order | Etsy’s Offsite Ads help article |
This table is deliberately compact. The base for each line is explained in Etsy seller fees (US).
The $0.20 listing fee is sunk, not taken from your sale
Etsy charges $0.20 when a listing is published or renewed. A listing lasts four months or until it sells, and editing a live listing is free. If it expires unsold and you renew it, that is another $0.20. That is a cost of being listed, not a deduction from the order, so “how much does Etsy take from a sale” is $5.48 above and the listing fee sits beneath it. On this $55 order $0.20 is 0.36% of the sale. Confirm current listing terms on the Etsy legal fees page.
Tax note
When sales tax applies, it is excluded from the 6.5% transaction base but included in the 3% + $0.25 processing base, so tax widens processing and not the transaction line. The tables here assume tax of $0.
Offsite Ads is the swing variable
It is the difference between $5.48 and $13.73 on the same order. Three rules, all from Etsy’s Offsite Ads help article:
- 15% on attributed orders while the shop has made under $10k in the trailing 365 days; opting out is allowed.
- 12% once the shop reaches $10k, and participation is mandatory thereafter.
- Attribution: a buyer clicks an offsite ad and orders within 30 days (if the last click is an Etsy Ads click, only the Etsy Ads cost applies). The fee never exceeds $100 on an individual order.
The full rulebook and the opt-out lever are in how to reduce Etsy fees.
Order size changes your take rate
The $0.25 in the processing fee is fixed per order, so it weighs more on small orders. No ads attributed, gross order including shipping, tax $0:
| Gross order | Transaction 6.5% | Processing 3% + $0.25 | Etsy takes | Take % |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $10.00 | $0.65 | $0.55 | $1.20 | 12.00% |
| $55.00 | $3.58 | $1.90 | $5.48 | 9.96% |
| $100.00 | $6.50 | $3.25 | $9.75 | 9.75% |
The rate falls toward 9.5% as orders grow (6.5% + 3%) but never reaches it. The Offsite Ads cap works the other way: on a $1,000 attributed order 15% would be $150, but the fee is capped at $100, an effective 10% ads rate. This page is static math, not a live Feebrief calculator
Feebrief’s interactive comparer covers eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, Vinted and Whatnot only. Etsy is not in that data set (comparer fee data last reviewed 2026-10-26), so everything here is a static worked example from Etsy’s published pages, checked 2026-10-31, not a live calculator. How much Etsy takes: FAQ
Does Etsy take the $0.20 listing fee out of my sale?
No. The $0.20 listing fee is charged when a listing is published or renewed, not deducted from the order, so it is a sunk cost rather than part of what Etsy takes from a sale. The $55 examples on this page show order-side fees only and assume the listing is already paid. If a listing expires unsold and is renewed, that renewal is another $0.20.
How much does Etsy take per order with no ads?
On a $50 item with $5 shipping and no sales tax, Etsy takes $5.48 of the $55.00 order, which is 9.96%: the 6.5% transaction fee ($3.58) plus the 3% + $0.25 processing fee ($1.90). The seller is paid $49.52 before the sunk $0.20 listing fee. Live invoices may differ by a cent.
Is there a maximum Etsy can take on one order?
Only Offsite Ads is capped, at $100 per individual order. The pages cited here state no cap on the 6.5% transaction fee or the 3% + $0.25 processing fee, so those keep scaling with the order. Confirm the wording on Etsy’s Offsite Ads help article.
