Facebook Marketplace vs OfferUp Fees
Selling locally, Facebook Marketplace and OfferUp cost the same: $0, with no commission from either on in-person sales. The difference is shipping. Facebook Marketplace charges 10% of the total transaction value (minimum $0.80) on shipped orders through onsite checkout, while OfferUp ended nationwide shipping in 2025, so it has no shipped fee at all. This page compares both line by line, with sources and dates.

Quick answer: $0 on both for local sales; only Facebook Marketplace charges when you ship
For local meetup sales the platforms tie at $0: OfferUp says it doesn’t charge fees or take a commission from in-person transactions, and Facebook Marketplace lists no selling fee for local pickup paid in person. Shipping is where they split: Facebook Marketplace’s 10% shipped-checkout fee still exists; OfferUp ended shipping, so it cannot charge one. The answer is the same whichever order you ask the question in — OfferUp vs Facebook Marketplace fees or the reverse. For the wider field, see resale marketplace fees compared.

The Facebook local $0 row is worded as “no fee listed” because the Meta pages cited here don’t carry a dedicated local sentence; check Meta’s page before relying on it. Local pickup: $0 on both platforms
Meet a buyer and take payment in person, and neither platform takes a cut. OfferUp’s help center says it plainly: OfferUp “doesn’t charge fees or take a commission from your in-person transactions.” Facebook Marketplace’s published selling fees apply to shipped onsite-checkout orders, and no Meta selling fee is listed for local pickup paid outside checkout — worded that way here because Meta doesn’t publish a dedicated local sentence on the pages cited. In practice, a $50 meetup sale leaves you $50.00 on either app, so the $0 tie is the default outcome on both.
Shipped sales: the only real fee difference
Facebook Marketplace — 10% with onsite checkout
On shipped orders where the buyer pays through Meta’s onsite checkout, Meta charges 10% of the total transaction value — item price plus shipping plus applicable taxes — with a $0.80 minimum per order. The prepaid shipping label is a separate deduction from your payout; Meta publishes no fixed label price, so none is quoted here. Payout is often initiated 15 days after the item is marked shipped, or 5 days after delivery is confirmed, and can take up to about 20 days to reach your bank. OfferUp — shipping ended, so no shipped fee exists
OfferUp shut down nationwide shipping in 2025: new listings became local-only from 2025-09-23, and shipping was removed from all remaining listings by 2025-10-21, per OfferUp’s help article. The question “what does OfferUp charge on shipped sales?” is now answered N/A — the path no longer exists. Comparison pages that still quote an OfferUp shipped percentage are describing the old product; the historical rate is not publicly available on OfferUp’s current help pages, and this page won’t invent it. More detail in OfferUp seller fees.
OfferUp costs that are not sale fees
OfferUp can still ask sellers for money — just never as a cut of a sale. Promote+ (Promote Plus) is an optional advertising subscription at $19.99 per month or $99.99 per year, with a first-time 3-day free trial (one per app-store account), billed through the App Store or Google Play. It is never a commission and is not deducted from what a buyer pays you. One-time Promote day prices are not publicly available on OfferUp’s help pages. Listings are free within monthly category allotments — Cars 1, Motorcycles 1, Appliances 15, Phones 15, Furniture 25, Jewelry 25, Tools 25, and 200 combined across other categories — refreshing on the 1st of the month, with no rollover of unused listings. Past the allotment, paid extra listings exist, priced per category and not publicly published. Full breakdown: OfferUp Promote Plus cost.
Worked examples: $4.80 on a shipped Facebook sale vs $0 on an OfferUp meetup
Examples assume a US individual seller; the Facebook order is shipped through onsite checkout with buyer-paid shipping and no sales tax; the OfferUp sale is a local meetup within the free listing allotment with no Promote+; the Meta label cost is a separate deduction, not a dollar figure. See how Feebrief estimates seller fees.
| Line | Facebook Marketplace: $40 item + $8 shipping, shipped | OfferUp: $50 local meetup |
|---|---|---|
| Buyer pays | $48.00 | $50.00 |
| Platform commission | $4.80 (10% of $48, above the $0.80 minimum) | $0 — none on in-person sales |
| Shipping label | Prepaid Meta label deducted from payout; no public fixed price | None — no shipping path |
| Seller keeps | $43.20 before the label | $50.00 |
| When you’re paid | Payout often initiated 15 days after marked shipped or 5 days after delivery confirmation; up to about 20 days to the bank | At handover, in person |
Ship a $40 item with $8 buyer-paid shipping on Facebook Marketplace and $4.80 goes to Meta, leaving $43.20 before the label. Sell a $50 item at an OfferUp meetup and nothing is deducted — you keep the full $50.00.
Which is cheaper for you?
Selling locally and meeting up: a tie at $0 — choose on audience and convenience, not fees. If the item must ship, Facebook Marketplace’s 10% is the only commission path left between the two as of 2026-10-31, because OfferUp can’t ship at all. High-volume OfferUp sellers face different math: Promote+ is a flat subscription, so it doesn’t scale per sale the way a percentage does — they are different cost structures, not two “fees per sale” to compare directly. For a shipping-capable alternative, see Facebook Marketplace vs eBay fees.
Informational page: no calculator for either platform
Feebrief’s interactive fee comparer currently covers eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, Vinted and Whatnot only. Neither Facebook Marketplace nor OfferUp is in that data set, so this page is a static, sourced comparison with no calculator embedded — and no fee estimator is promised for either platform. Facebook Marketplace vs OfferUp fees FAQ
Does OfferUp still charge shipping fees?
No. OfferUp ended nationwide shipping: new listings became local-only from 2025-09-23, and shipping was removed from all remaining listings by 2025-10-21, per OfferUp’s help article on the change. There is no shipped-checkout fee today because the shipped path no longer exists. The old shipped-sale percentage is not published on OfferUp’s current help pages, so it is not quoted here.
Do Facebook Marketplace and OfferUp both have $0 local fees?
In effect, yes. OfferUp states outright that it “doesn’t charge fees or take a commission from your in-person transactions.” Facebook Marketplace lists no Meta selling fee for local pickup paid in person, so a $50 meetup sale leaves you the full $50.00 on either platform. OfferUp’s zero is stated explicitly; Facebook’s rests on no fee being listed.
How much does Facebook Marketplace take on shipped sales vs OfferUp?
Facebook Marketplace takes 10% of the total transaction value — item price plus shipping plus applicable taxes — with a $0.80 minimum per order, on shipped orders paid through Meta’s onsite checkout. OfferUp takes nothing on shipped sales because it no longer offers shipping: listings are local-only. For the per-order math, see how much Facebook Marketplace takes.
Is OfferUp Promote Plus a selling commission?
No. Promote Plus (Promote+) is an optional advertising subscription at $19.99 per month or $99.99 per year, with a first-time 3-day free trial, billed through the App Store or Google Play. It is never a percentage of a sale and is not taken out of what a buyer pays you. See OfferUp Promote Plus cost for the trial rules and scope.
