The Facebook Marketplace Shipping Fee: 10% of Item + Shipping + Taxes, $0.80 Minimum

When a listing sells as a shipped order through Meta’s onsite checkout, Facebook Marketplace charges a selling fee of 10% of the total transaction value — item price, shipping and applicable taxes — with a $0.80 minimum per order. This guide unpacks that fee: what it is charged on, when the $0.80 floor binds, and how the prepaid label and payout timing stack on top.

Facebook Marketplace shipping fee data checked against Meta Help, Meta merchant policies and the Meta Onsite Checkout Payments Features Terms; Meta shipping terms page last updated . Figures are for US individual sellers. United States, USD.

Short answer: three costs hide behind “Facebook Marketplace shipping fee”

The phrase points at three different things, and only the first is this page:

Sell a $40 item with $8 buyer-paid shipping and the fee is $4.80 — 10% of the $48 total — leaving $43.20 before the label.

What the 10% is and when it applies

The selling fee applies to shipped orders paid through Meta’s onsite checkout, per Meta Help and Meta’s merchant policies. It is 10% of the total transaction value with a $0.80 minimum per order, deducted from your payout rather than billed separately. For local pickup paid in person, no Meta selling fee is listed — that side of the fork, along with payout setup and the rest of the fee picture, is in the full Facebook Marketplace seller fees guide.

The fee base: item + shipping + applicable taxes

Meta describes the base as the total transaction value, and each component adds fee at 10%:

Fee base components on the $40 item plus $8 shipping example, tax 0
ComponentIn the base?AmountAdds to the fee
Item priceYes$40.00$4.00
ShippingYes$8.00$0.80
Applicable taxesYes, when present$0.00 in this example10% of the tax amount (hypothetical $3.00 tax adds $0.30)
Total—$48.00$4.80

Two consequences. Every $1 of shipping adds $0.10 to the fee, so a higher delivery charge raises the fee even though the item price is unchanged. And the item-only comparison — 10% of $40 is $4.00 versus $4.80 with shipping included — is illustrative only: fee bases differ from platform to platform, and the cross-platform side-by-side is covered in Facebook Marketplace vs eBay fees.

The $0.80 minimum: where the floor binds

Ten percent of a small total falls below $0.80, and Meta charges the minimum instead. The crossover line is $8.00, because 10% of $8.00 is exactly $0.80. Below it, the effective rate exceeds 10%; at $8.00 and above, the flat 10% applies.

$12.00$1.20$1.2010.0%
$48.00$4.80$4.8010.0% (the worked example)

Cheap shipped items are where the floor bites: a $5.00 order pays $0.80, or 16% of the sale. Price small items with the floor in mind, not the headline 10%.

Worked example: $40 item + $8 shipping, tax $0

Assumptions: US individual seller, buyer-paid shipping inside the fee base, no sales tax, prepaid label shown as a separate deduction rather than a dollar figure. See how Feebrief estimates seller fees.

The shipping-in-base effect is the part sellers miss: an item-only 10% would be $4.00, and including shipping adds $0.80 — exactly 10% of the $8 shipping charge. That is illustrative only, since fee bases vary across platforms; the platform-by-platform comparison lives in Facebook Marketplace vs eBay fees.

The prepaid Meta label: a separate deduction, not a percentage

When you ship through Meta’s flow, you buy a prepaid label and its cost is deducted from your payout as a separate dollar line, on top of the 10% selling fee. Meta does not publish a fixed label price: it depends on the carrier quote at the time, so Feebrief does not invent one. Per Meta shipping terms (page last updated 2026-08-31), the label is its own term of the sale — do not conflate it with the percentage fee, and check the quote Meta shows you before confirming the label.

When the money arrives

Per Meta Help, checked 2026-10-31, the payout for a shipped order is:

The selling fee and the label cost are both deducted before the payout lands. We quote the triggers as worded and do not compute an average.

Facebook Marketplace shipping fee FAQ

What is the Facebook Marketplace shipping fee?

It is Meta’s selling fee on shipped orders paid through onsite checkout: 10% of the total transaction value — item price plus shipping plus applicable taxes — with a $0.80 minimum per order. On a $40 item with $8 shipping and no tax, the fee is $4.80, which is 10% of the $48 total. It is separate from the prepaid Meta shipping label cost, which is deducted from your payout as its own line.

Does the 10% fee include shipping and taxes in its base?

Yes. The base is the total transaction value: item price, shipping and applicable taxes. Every $1 of shipping adds $0.10 to the fee, and applicable taxes add 10% of the tax amount — a hypothetical $3.00 tax line on the $40 + $8 order would raise the fee from $4.80 to $5.10. An item-only 10% on the same order would be $4.00, but that comparison is illustrative; fee bases differ by platform.

How much does the prepaid Meta shipping label cost?

Not publicly available as a fixed dollar amount. The label is a separate deduction from your payout, priced from the carrier quote when you buy it through Meta, per Meta’s shipping terms (page last updated 2026-08-31). Feebrief does not estimate a label dollar figure.

How long does Facebook Marketplace take to pay out a shipped order?

Per Meta Help, payouts are often initiated 15 days after the item is marked shipped, or 5 days after delivery is confirmed, and it can take up to about 20 days in total for funds to reach your bank. The selling fee and label cost are deducted before payout. Confirm the current wording on the live Meta page.

Informational page: not a Feebrief calculator

Feebrief’s interactive fee comparer currently covers eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, Vinted and Whatnot only (fee data last reviewed 2026-10-26). Facebook Marketplace is not in that data set, so the figures on this page are static worked examples from Meta’s published help and legal pages, not a live Feebrief calculator. See how Feebrief estimates seller fees and the Feebrief disclosure. Not covered here: buyer-side shipping charges, Business/Shops/Commerce Manager fee schedules, refund and cancellation fee treatment, and boosted listing costs.
