Grailed vs eBay fees: 6% under $120 or 9%, plus 3.49% + $0.49, vs 13.6% + $0.40 per order

Grailed charges two lines: a commission that is 6% under $120 and 9% from $120, and a separate payment processing fee. eBay charges one all-in percentage plus a fixed per-order fee. This page puts them side by side and works the same item through both at three prices. It is a static comparison, not a live calculator for Grailed.

Grailed fee data checked 2026-11-01 against the Grailed Support fees article (updated 2026-05-13), the payment processing article (updated 2025-03-07) and the Grailed Terms; eBay fee data last updated 2026-10-26 from the eBay selling fees page. United States, USD. Grailed figures assume a seller onboarded with Stripe.

Short answer: Grailed keeps more on the same item, by less above $120

On the same $100 item with no sales tax, a US seller onboarded with Stripe who ships with a Grailed Label keeps $90.02 on Grailed and $86.00 on eBay. Grailed takes a 6% commission ($6.00) plus 3.49% + $0.49 payment processing ($3.98), $9.98 in all. eBay takes its 13.6% most-categories final value fee plus a $0.40 per-order fee, $14.00 in all, so Grailed keeps $4.02 more.

At $150 Grailed’s commission steps to 9% on the whole price and the gap shrinks to $130.77 against $129.20. Below about $21 the order flips: Grailed’s $1.99 commission minimum and $0.49 fixed processing fee make eBay the cheaper of the two. Assumptions: US seller, domestic buyer, Grailed Label, Stripe-onboarded, sales tax $0, eBay most categories without a Store or promoted listings. Each fee line is rounded half-up to the cent; live invoices may differ by a cent.

Grailed’s 6% tier applies to sales made on or after 2026-05-20 and the 9% rate applies at $120 and above, per the Grailed “What are the fees?” help article (updated 2026-05-13). The eBay column is the most-categories rate; sneakers, handbags and some apparel sub-categories differ and are not quoted here, so use the eBay seller fees and take-home estimator to pick a category. Commission and payment processing are two separate Grailed lines; a 6% or 9% figure alone is not comparable with eBay’s all-in rate.

What each fee is charged on

The bases differ, so a rate-to-rate comparison misleads.

Why the gap narrows at $120

Grailed’s commission steps from 6% to 9% on the whole sale at a $120 sale price, while eBay’s most-categories rate stays at 13.6%. Under $120 the gap in Grailed’s favour is about 4.1 cents per dollar, and at $120 and above about 1.1 cents per dollar, minus $0.09 either way. One cent of price moves the gap by $3.60:

Where eBay is cheaper: under about $21

Grailed’s $1.99 commission minimum binds while 6% of the price is under $1.99, which is below about $33.17. Add the $0.49 fixed processing fee and Grailed costs $2.48 before any percentage, against eBay’s $0.40. On this basket the two meet at about $20.57; eBay is cheaper below it and Grailed above it.

Shipping and Grailed Label change the Grailed column, not the eBay one

Here is a $110 item with $15 of buyer-charged shipping collected through checkout on both platforms, tax $0, Stripe-onboarded. Nets are shown on the $125 gross before the seller pays the carrier.

$110 item plus $15 shipping, Grailed with and without a Grailed Label, against eBay
CasePercentage base and tierPercentage feeFixed / processingFeesNet of $125 gross
Grailed, Grailed LabelCommission on $110 (listing only), under $120, so 6%$6.60Processing on $125: $4.3625 + $0.49 = $4.85$11.45$113.55, then label cost deducted

eBay, either labelFinal value fee on $125 (item plus shipping)$17.00$0.40$17.40$107.60, then label cost deducted

Shipping widens eBay’s base on every sale. It widens Grailed’s commission base only when you skip the Grailed Label, and here it also pushes the sale into the 9% tier. Grailed is still ahead in both cases on this basket. The label itself is a separate deduction on both sides.

Estimate the eBay side live; the Grailed side is static

Feebrief’s interactive fee comparer currently covers eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Depop, Vinted and Whatnot only. The eBay column on this page can be checked live on our eBay seller fees and take-home estimator, which includes a category picker. Grailed is not in that data set, so the Grailed column is static arithmetic from Grailed’s published help and Terms pages, not a live Feebrief calculator. Grailed vs eBay fees FAQ

Is Grailed cheaper than eBay?

On the same item, almost always, but by less once the item reaches $120. A US seller onboarded with Stripe who ships a $100 item with a Grailed Label pays $9.98 on Grailed and $14.00 on eBay’s most-categories rate, so Grailed keeps $4.02 more. At $150 Grailed’s commission steps to 9% on the whole price and the margin shrinks to $1.57 ($130.77 against $129.20). Below about $21, Grailed’s $1.99 commission minimum plus the $0.49 fixed processing fee makes eBay the cheaper platform: a $20 item costs $3.18 on Grailed and $3.12 on eBay. eBay’s rate also varies by category, so check the eBay seller fees and take-home estimator for sneakers, bags and other exceptions.

Which one charges fees on shipping?

eBay always does; Grailed does on one of its two lines, and on the other only if you skip the Grailed Label. eBay’s 13.6% final value fee is charged on item plus buyer-paid shipping. Grailed’s 3.49% + $0.49 processing is charged on the total including shipping and tax, but the commission is charged on the listing price alone when you ship with a Grailed Label, and on listing price plus buyer-charged shipping when you do not, which can also push the sale over the $120 line. A $110 item with $15 buyer-charged shipping pays $6.60 commission with a Label and $11.25 without, while eBay’s fee on the same $125 is $17.00 either way. See Grailed seller fees explained (the $120 cliff and the Grailed Label base rule) for the base rule and eBay vs Poshmark fees (13.6% + $0.40 vs 20% on item only) for a live pair where the base differs between the two sides.

Why does Grailed show two fee lines and eBay only one?

eBay’s final value fee already includes payment processing under managed payments, so 13.6% plus the per-order fee is all-in for most categories. Grailed charges a commission (6% or 9%) and a separate payment processing fee (3.49% + $0.49 for a US seller onboarded with Stripe, or 3.49% + $0.99 if not), on two different bases. Comparing Grailed’s 6% or 9% alone against eBay’s 13.6% is the most common mistake in this comparison; the honest Grailed figure on a $100 Label sale is 9.98% of the price, and on a $150 sale 12.8%. One older Grailed help page for international sellers has said 9% across the board; the dedicated fees page, updated 2026-05-13, shows the current schedule, so confirm on the live Grailed pages.
