Etsy vs Grailed: same item, different fee stacks
Send a $60 sale through both stacks and they finish three cents apart — Etsy returns $53.85, Grailed $53.82. Nothing in the fine print matches: one side stacks a $0.20 listing, a 6.5% transaction fee and 3% + $0.25 processing; the other runs a 6% commission (minimum $1.99) plus Stripe's 3.49% + $0.49, and jumps to 9% the moment a sale reaches $120. Below, the same $60 and $125 sales are worked line by line through each platform, Offsite Ads priced separately on the $125 sale only.
Last updated . Etsy fee data checked 2026-11-01 against Etsy's published fee and Offsite Ads pages for US sellers; Grailed fee data checked the same day against Grailed's fees help pages, whose commission schedule covers sales on or after 2026-05-20. United States, USD. Grailed processing assumes a US seller onboarded with Stripe.
Feebrief is independent of both marketplaces and is not an official fee tool for either. Rates, minimums and thresholds move; the platforms' own fee pages are the record before you price anything.
Net keep on a $60 sale: three cents apart
On a $60 item with $0 shipping and $0 sales tax, an Etsy seller keeps $53.85 and a Grailed seller keeps $53.82. Here is every line that produces those numbers.
| Fee line | Etsy on $60 | Grailed on $60 |
|---|---|---|
| Listing | $0.20 | $0 |
| Sale percentage | 6.5% × $60 = $3.90 | 6% × $60 = $3.60 (the $1.99 minimum doesn't bind here) |
| Payment processing | 3% × $60 + $0.25 = $2.05 | 3.49% × $60 + $0.49 = $2.58 |
| Total fees | $6.15 | $6.18 |
| Seller keeps | $53.85 | $53.82 |
Why so close? Add each platform's percentages: Etsy's 6.5% + 3% is 9.5% of the sale; Grailed's 6% + 3.49% is 9.49% — a hundredth of a point apart. The fixed cents then decide it: Etsy's $0.20 + $0.25 runs $0.45 per order against Grailed's $0.49, so Etsy edges ahead by roughly the width of a rounding coin. No Offsite Ads attribution is assumed in this scenario. Both all-in takes sit near 10.3% of the price at $60 — but the $1.99 commission minimum pushes Grailed's all-in cost up on very cheap listings, roughly doubling it under about $20.
Line items that actually move the net
| Line | Etsy US | Grailed US | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Listing | $0.20 per listing | $0 | Etsy's is the only unavoidable flat cost on this row; it applies whether or not the item sells |
| Sale percentage | 6.5% transaction fee | 6% with a $1.99 minimum under $120; 9% at $120 and above (sales on or after 2026-05-20) | Etsy's percentage applies to item price plus shipping plus gift wrap, sales tax excluded; Grailed's commission follows the sale price, and shipping is $0 in every worked example here |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 | 3.49% + $0.49 (Stripe-onboarded US seller) | Etsy's processing runs on the gross including shipping and tax; Grailed's runs on the total including shipping and tax |
| Advertising | Offsite Ads: 15% of the order, or 12% with mandatory participation above $10k trailing 365-day revenue; $100 per-order cap; 30-day attribution | No equivalent ad fee published on the pages used here | Situational — Etsy sellers under the $10k line can generally opt out; modeled on this page only in the $125 scenario |
| Shipping labels | Seller-paid label costs sit outside the fee stack | Grailed Labels are seller-paid; no fixed amount is published on the pages used here, so none is quoted | Label spend affects real take-home but is not a platform fee; both columns exclude it |
Two details decide most real-world gaps. First, the percentage bases differ — Etsy's transaction line and processing line are measured on slightly different totals (gift wrap on one, tax on the other), while Grailed's processing follows the full transaction. Second, the fixed cents compound differently at low prices: a $15 listing pays $1.18 in Etsy order-side fees plus the $0.20 listing, versus Grailed's $1.99 minimum commission alone before Stripe adds 3.49% + $0.49 — so sub-$20 items typically cost noticeably less to sell on Etsy. See Grailed fees under $120 for how the minimum plays out across price bands, and the platform guides for the full schedules.
Crossing $120 on Grailed: the $125 sale worked through both stacks
Grailed's commission steps from 6% to 9% once a sale reaches $120 — and the 9% applies to the entire price, not to the portion above the line. So a $125 listing pays 9% × $125 = $11.25 in commission, not 6% on the first $120 with 9% on the remaining $5.
- Grailed on $125: commission $11.25; processing 3.49% × $125 + $0.49 = $4.36 + $0.49 = $4.85; total ≈$16.10; seller keeps ≈$108.90 — about 12.9% of the price all-in.
- Etsy on $125 (no Offsite): listing $0.20; transaction 6.5% × $125 = ≈$8.13; processing 3% × $125 + $0.25 = $4.00; total ≈$12.33; seller keeps ≈$112.67 — about 9.9% all-in.
Above $120 the near-parity breaks: Etsy's base stack holds at roughly 9.5% plus cents while Grailed's climbs past 12.8% with processing, leaving Etsy about $3.77 ahead at $125 before any advertising enters the picture. Figures are rounded half-up to the cent, so a live invoice may differ by a cent. Shipping and sales tax are $0 in both scenarios; a shipped sale widens Grailed's processing base (3.49% + $0.49 on the total including shipping) while Etsy's percentages split across different bases as noted above.
Etsy's Offsite Ads fee, priced on the $125 sale only
The $112.67 Etsy figure assumes no ad attribution. When Etsy credits a sale to an Offsite Ad — buyers attributed within a 30-day window — it adds a fee on top of everything above:
- 15% tier (sellers under $10,000 in trailing 365-day Offsite Ads revenue, opt-out generally available): 15% × $125 = $18.75, well under the $100 per-order cap. Etsy's net falls to ≈$93.92, and Grailed's unchanged $108.90 is now ahead by ≈$14.98.
- 12% tier (mandatory once trailing 365-day Offsite Ads revenue reaches $10,000): 12% × $125 = $15.00. Etsy's net lands at ≈$97.67, leaving Grailed ahead by ≈$11.23.
That single optional line swings the comparison harder than every other difference combined, which is why it is kept out of the base worked nets rather than folded into them. Grailed publishes no equivalent ad fee on the pages used here. Full rules — attribution window, cap and the revenue tiers — are covered in the Offsite Ads fee guide.
Why this page shows arithmetic instead of a calculator
No fee calculator runs here, and neither Etsy nor Grailed offers a live one on its own site (checked 2026-11-01). Rather than imply a tool exists, this page writes the multiplication out — each worked net above is four or five lines of arithmetic from the published rates in the sources section. For pricing decisions, redo the math with your actual shipping charge and label cost; both sit outside the fee stacks compared here, and label pricing in particular usually varies by package size and route.
Questions sellers ask about Etsy and Grailed fees
Does Grailed still charge 6%?
Yes, with two conditions. For sales on or after 2026-05-20, Grailed's commission is 6% of the sale price with a $1.99 minimum when the sale is under $120, and 9% of the whole price once a sale reaches $120. Payment processing of 3.49% + $0.49 for a US seller onboarded with Stripe is charged on top, so 6% is the commission line only, not the all-in cost.
Is Etsy's Offsite Ads fee always charged?
No. Offsite Ads adds 15% of the order when Etsy attributes the sale to an offsite ad within its 30-day window. Sellers under $10,000 in trailing 365-day Offsite Ads revenue can generally opt out; at $10,000 or more the fee is mandatory but drops to 12%. The fee is capped at $100 per order. This page keeps Offsite out of every worked net except the $125 scenario.
Do Etsy or Grailed offer a fee calculator?
No. Neither marketplace offers a live seller-fee calculator as of 2026-11-01, and this page is not one either — every figure is arithmetic from the published rates listed in the sources section below.

Where the fee numbers come from
Etsy rates — the $0.20 listing fee, the 6.5% transaction fee on item plus shipping plus gift wrap (tax excluded), 3% + $0.25 Etsy Payments processing, and the Offsite Ads rules (15% opt-out / 12% mandatory at $10k+ trailing 365 days, $100 per-order cap, 30-day attribution) — come from Etsy's published fee pages for US sellers, checked November 1, 2026. Grailed rates — $0 listing, the 6% (minimum $1.99) under-$120 and 9% at-$120-plus commission schedule effective for sales on or after 2026-05-20, and 3.49% + $0.49 processing for US sellers onboarded with Stripe — come from Grailed's fees help pages, checked the same day. Every worked net is Feebrief's own arithmetic from those rates, rounded half-up to the cent; live invoices may differ by a cent with rounding.
