Vinted vs Grailed Fees: Who Pays What

One of these marketplaces bills the person buying; the other bills the person selling. That single fork is the whole fee comparison between Vinted and Grailed in the US. Vinted adds a buyer fee — usually 5% of the item price plus $0.70 — when the shopper hits Buy now, and the seller gives up none of the item price. Grailed adds nothing at the buyer's end; instead the seller hands over a 6%-or-9% commission plus Stripe processing. Both rulebooks are mapped line by line below, the same $50 item is pushed through each checkout, and a $100 Grailed sale is worked out with the payout shown first.

Last updated . Vinted figures follow the fee pricelist in Vinted's help center, which the marketplace itself last updated 10/08/2026; Grailed figures follow the Grailed Support fees and payment-processing articles, and the current 6%-and-9% commission tiers apply to sales made on or after 2026-05-20. United States, USD throughout. Every worked net models the item price by itself — sales tax $0, shipping $0 — and Grailed examples assume a US seller onboarded with Stripe.

Feebrief is independent and unaffiliated with either marketplace. Where a fee line is derived rather than quoted, cents are rounded half-up, so a live invoice may differ by a penny. Rates do move; confirm on the linked fee pages before pricing a listing.

At a glance: who each marketplace bills

Six lines cover the entire fee gap between the two platforms. The short version: Vinted's only mandatory fee sits on the buyer, Grailed's sit on the seller, and listing is free on both.

Vinted's rulebook: a buyer fee and a $0 seller line

Vinted's own help center answers the question sellers ask most — "Are sellers now charged this fee?" — with a plain No. The fee in question is the buyer fee, once labeled Buyer Protection, and it lands on the shopper at Buy now. In the US it is usually 5% of the item price plus $0.70, and Vinted is explicit that the calculation varies: item characteristics, order value, and whether the order is a single item or a bundle all feed the final figure. The pricelist carrying these rules was last updated by Vinted on 10/08/2026.

For sellers, that makes the item price the payout — no commission, no processing line, nothing deducted. The deeper dive into that $0 is at does Vinted charge sellers?, the buyer-fee mechanics (with the hedge language kept intact) are at Vinted fees explained, and the take-rate framing lives at how much does Vinted take?

Grailed's rulebook: 6% or 9%, plus a processing line

Grailed charges nothing to list, and the buyer's checkout shows no platform fee. The seller's side carries two lines. First, commission: 6% of the item price under $120, with a $1.99 minimum that stands in whenever 6% of a low-priced item would be smaller; at $120 and above the rate is 9%. This two-tier schedule applies to sales made on or after 2026-05-20 — the step change at $120 is the single most important number in Grailed pricing, and it gets a full page at Grailed fees under $120.

Second, payment processing: a US seller onboarded with Stripe pays 3.49% + $0.49 on the transaction. Both lines are automatic on a completed sale — there is no way to opt out of either. The parent guide at Grailed seller fees covers label choices and the non-onboarded processing rate.

Which is cheaper? It depends which side of the deal you're on

"Is Vinted or Grailed cheaper?" only has an honest answer once you say who you are. Buying: Grailed's checkout adds nothing, so the buyer pays the list price; Vinted's checkout usually adds 5% + $0.70 on top, so the same list price costs more at the register. Selling: the mirror flips — Vinted takes nothing from the item price, while Grailed's commission plus processing trims roughly a tenth off a typical payout at the prices worked below.

So a shopper's cheaper platform is the seller's more expensive one, and vice versa. Blending both sides into one "fee percentage" — the shortcut most comparisons take — hides exactly the fork that decides the answer. The Vinted fee hub has the buyer-fee detail if that side of the fork is yours.

One $50 hoodie, two fee stacks

Same item, same $50 price, two different checkouts. On Vinted, the seller's payout is the full $50.00 — nothing is deducted — while the buyer usually pays 5% of $50 ($2.50) plus $0.70, a $3.20 buyer fee, bringing the shopper's total to $53.20 before any shipping or tax. On Grailed, the buyer's total is the flat $50.00, and the deductions move to the seller: a $3.00 commission (6% of $50, comfortably above the $1.99 floor) plus a Stripe line of about $2.24 (3.49% of $50 is roughly $1.745, call it $1.75, plus the $0.49 fixed piece).

$50 item on Vinted and Grailed: buyer fee, seller fees, and what each side ends up with
On a $50 itemVintedGrailed
Buyer-side feeUsually $3.20 (5% + $0.70; varies)$0
Seller-side fees$0≈ $5.24 total ($3.00 commission + ≈ $2.24 processing)
Seller keeps$50.00≈ $44.76

Grailed's ≈ marks are derived cents, rounded half-up. The gap between the two seller payouts on this identical hoodie is about $5.24 — money that, on Vinted, the buyer contributed instead.

Worked example: a $100 sale on Grailed, net first

Start from the payout and work backward. A $100 item sold on Grailed with a Grailed Label puts about $90.02 in a Stripe-onboarded US seller's pocket — just under 90% of the list price. Two lines explain the distance between $100 and that payout. The bigger one is commission: $6.00, because the item sits below the $120 tier where the 6% rate applies. The smaller one is processing: $3.98, built from 3.49% of the price ($3.49) plus the fixed $0.49. Add them and the platform's total take comes to just about $10 — $9.98 exactly — before any label cost is settled, which rides separately on the seller's side.

The same $100 item on Vinted would cost the buyer roughly $105.70 at checkout (5% + $0.70 is the usual shape, though it varies) and leave the seller's $100.00 untouched. Whether that trade — buyer pays ~$5.70 more versus seller gives up ~$10 — favors one app depends entirely on which seat you occupy.

Bumps are not a commission: optional spend vs automatic cut

Vinted sellers can pay for "bumps" — extra visibility for a listing — and the amount varies because it is set per bump, not published as a flat rate on the fee pages used here. Two things separate a bump from a fee: it is optional, and it buys placement rather than being owed on a sale. Skip bumps entirely and a Vinted sale still costs the seller $0. Grailed has no equivalent visibility upsell on its fee pages, but its commission is the opposite in kind — unavoidable, deducted automatically from every completed sale, with the processing line riding along. Confusing Vinted's optional bump spend with a mandatory seller fee is the most common mixing error in this comparison.

Quick answers

As a seller, do I owe Vinted a cut when my item sells?

No. Vinted's help center says so directly, and the item price is the seller's to keep. The only seller-side money on Vinted is optional bump spending, which is never owed on a sale.

As a buyer, which app's checkout adds a fee?

Vinted's. It usually adds 5% + $0.70 at Buy now, and the exact amount varies with the item and the order. Grailed's buyer checkout adds no platform fee.

Is Grailed's percentage 6% or 9%?

Both, on a price ladder: 6% with a $1.99 minimum below $120, then 9% from $120 up, for sales on or after 2026-05-20. Stripe's 3.49% + $0.49 processing comes on top of either rate for an onboarded US seller.

What does the rate change at $120 actually do to a sale?

On a $120 item, commission is $10.80 (9%), processing is about $4.68 (3.49% of $120 ≈ $4.19, plus $0.49), and the seller keeps roughly $104.52 of the $120. One dollar of list price is the seam between the two rates — $119.99 pays 6%, $120.00 pays 9% on the whole price.

Can I treat Vinted's 5% + $0.70 as guaranteed?

Treat it as the usual US shape, not a promise. Vinted states the calculation varies with item characteristics, order value, and single-item-versus-bundle orders, so a specific checkout can land elsewhere.

Does either marketplace charge just to list?

No. Listing is $0 on both; every fee discussed on this page is triggered only by a sale or, on Vinted, by an optional bump purchase.
