Vinted Fees Explained: What US Sellers and Buyers Pay

Vinted's US fee model splits the cost of each sale across its two sides. Sellers pay 0% commission and keep 100% of the item sale price. Buyers pay a mandatory Vinted fee at checkout — formerly called Buyer Protection — which is usually 5% + $0.70, but varies, plus shipping. This page settles the seller-$0 / buyer-pays tension in one screen: who pays what, why the "usually" matters, and what a typical buyer fee looks like at three price points.

Vinted fee facts checked in the Feebrief fee data set (Vinted US entry) against Vinted's US pricelist and help article 1645; page prepared . Rates shown are for US buyers and sellers in USD.

What Vinted sellers pay: $0

In the US, Vinted charges sellers nothing on the sale itself. Commission is 0%, and the seller keeps 100% of the item sale price: a $30 sale pays the seller $30.00, a $100 sale pays $100.00. There is also no separate payment-processing fee on the seller side in the Feebrief fee data set — payment handling shows up on the buyer's side of the checkout, not as a deduction from the seller's proceeds.

The only seller-facing costs Feebrief is aware of are optional — the bumping extras covered below, which sit outside this fee model. "Free to sell" is therefore accurate for the commission line in the US. But it is only half of the fee story, and the other half is charged to the buyer.

What Vinted buyers pay

A buyer's checkout is item price + Vinted fee + shipping. The Vinted fee is mandatory — formerly called Buyer Protection — and Vinted's own wording is that it is usually 5% + $0.70. "Usually" is doing real work in that sentence: the fee varies, Vinted publishes no single fixed formula Feebrief could guarantee, and the actual amount is set at checkout. The stated variation drivers are the item's characteristics, the order value, and whether the order is a single item or a bundle — so a multi-item order may land on a different fee than the same items bought separately.

Shipping is the second buyer-paid line: the buyer pays it on top of the item price and the fee. The honest buyer-side summary is: expect roughly 5% + $0.70, check the exact figure at checkout, and add shipping on top. United States, USD; checked against Vinted's US pricelist, .

Worked illustration: a typical buyer fee

The table applies the typical formula — 5% of the item price plus $0.70 — at three price points. Typical, not guaranteed: the actual fee varies and is set at checkout.

Typical Vinted buyer fee at $10, $30 and $100 item prices: about $1.20, $2.20 and $5.70 respectively, with the seller netting the full item price. Typical, not guaranteed; actual fee set at checkout. United States, USD.
Item priceTypical Vinted fee (5% + $0.70)Buyer pays before shippingSeller nets
$10 item≈$1.20≈$11.20 + shipping$10.00
$30 item≈$2.20≈$32.20 + shipping$30.00
$100 item≈$5.70≈$105.70 + shipping$100.00

Read the two right-hand columns together. The seller's net never moves — commission is 0%, so the fee comes out of the buyer's side of the checkout, not the seller's proceeds. And note the shape of the fee: because the $0.70 is fixed, the typical fee is about 12% of a $10 item but about 5.7% of a $100 item — the usual formula weighs heaviest on cheap items. These are Feebrief's worked examples, labeled typical, not guaranteed.

Why "0% seller fees" comparisons mislead

Most fee comparisons are seller-only: a column of seller commission rates in which Vinted scores a perfect 0%. That framing answers "what does the seller pay Vinted?" and quietly hides "what does the sale cost in total?" On Vinted US, the buyer pays a mandatory fee on every order — usually 5% + $0.70 — plus shipping, so the platform is paid on every transaction; it is just paid from the other chair.

If you are the buyer, "0% seller fees" is irrelevant to your cost. If you are the seller, it still matters for pricing: buyers see the fee at checkout, and a total that feels high can cost you the sale. Any honest cross-marketplace comparison has to line up both sides — see how Vinted's US model sits among the other platforms Feebrief covers on the resale marketplace fees compared page.

Optional seller extras: bumping

Above the mandatory fee model sit optional seller extras — paid "bumps" that promote a listing. Bumping fees are not part of the fee facts on this page: they are optional, they are not in the Feebrief fee data set, and Feebrief publishes no figure for them here rather than risk printing a stale one. The seller-$0 and buyer-fee statements above are the mandatory model; bumping sits outside it.
