Facebook Marketplace vs Poshmark: three sale paths, one $15 threshold
One jacket, three routes: hand it over at a meetup and the fee is $0; box it through Facebook's onsite checkout and 10% of the entire checkout goes to Meta (minimum $0.80); list it on Poshmark and $2.95 disappears under $15 or 20% of the sale price at $15 and above. On fees alone, nearly every US basket comes out ahead on the Facebook side — Poshmark's argument is bundled shipping and a social feed, not the fee line. Every figure below is hand-worked, dated, and sourced.
Last updated . Rates checked against Meta Help and Meta legal pages, and Poshmark's published fee schedule as recorded in Feebrief's fee database (fees.json, FACTS-batch1 for Facebook Marketplace and FACTS-batch4 for Poshmark). Figures are for US individual sellers. United States, USD.

Three real baskets: a $40 meetup, a $28 parcel, an $18 share
Run the same clearing-out afternoon three ways and the fee line behaves differently each time — absent, a slice of the whole checkout, or a fifth of the price tag. These are the worked baskets this page keeps returning to.
Path 1 · Facebook Marketplace, local pickup
A $40 dresser handed over in a parking lot, paid in person. Meta lists no selling fee for local pickup, so $0.00 fee You keep $40.00 — and no label to pay for either. Poshmark simply has no version of this lane; see Facebook Marketplace local pickup fees.
Path 2 · Facebook Marketplace, shipped
A $28 sell plus $8 shipping through onsite checkout: 10% of the $36.00 total is $3.60 fee You keep $32.40 before the label. A prepaid Meta label is deducted from the payout; its cost isn't published as one fixed figure, so none is quoted here (shipping fee details).
Path 3 · Poshmark
An $18 listing, above the threshold: 20% of the item price is $3.60 fee You keep $14.40. The buyer pays shipping separately and it never passes through your payout; processing is already inside the 20%.
| The rule | Facebook Marketplace (US) | Poshmark (US) |
|---|---|---|
| Listing an item | $0 | $0 |
| Selling locally | $0 — no Meta selling fee listed for local pickup paid in person | No local lane exists; every sale ships |
| Selling shipped | 10% of the total transaction value (item + shipping + applicable taxes), $0.80 minimum per order | Flat $2.95 under $15; 20% of the sale price at $15 and above — item only |
| Processing / payment | Inside the 10% | Inside the $2.95 or 20% |
| Live fee calculator | None published | Yes — Feebrief's Poshmark fee calculator |
Full rule-by-rule detail lives in Facebook Marketplace seller fees and Poshmark fees explained. The two percentages also don't multiply the same number — Facebook's 10% hits item + shipping + tax, Poshmark's 20% hits the item alone — which is why the net table below, not the headline rates, is where the real comparison happens.
Why $14.99 and $15.00 feel different on Poshmark
Poshmark's schedule is two formulas with a seam at $15.00: a flat $2.95 below it, 20% of the sale price from it upward. The seam shows up in the payout, not the fee chart. Ask $14.99 and you keep $12.04; round up to $15.00 and you keep $12.00 — because the percentage branch starts at $3.00 while the flat branch ended at $2.95, four cents of your payout vanish the moment the tag crosses the line. The climb back is gradual: at 20%, each extra dollar of price returns only $0.80 to you.
| Tag price | Fee taken | You keep |
|---|---|---|
| $14.99 | $2.95 (flat) | $12.04 |
| $15.00 | $3.00 (20%) | $12.00 |
| $15.04 | $3.01 (20%) | $12.03 |
| $15.05 | $3.01 (20%) | $12.04 — ties $14.99 |
So the pricing tactic is real: list at $14.99, or at $15.05 and up, and skip the $15.00–$15.04 band that asks buyers for more and pays you less. Facebook Marketplace's shipped fee has no seam like this — 10% of the checkout is a straight line, and its only step is the $0.80 minimum, which fires on checkouts under $8.00. The deeper dive on the threshold is in Poshmark fees explained.
What the seller keeps at $18, $28, $40 and $80
Same tag prices, three routes. Facebook shipped rows add $8 shipping and assume $0 tax; the fee is 10% of that combined total, so the shipping the buyer pays both arrives in your payout and gets taxed by the 10%. On Poshmark the buyer's shipping never touches your payout, so those nets are on the item alone.
| List price | Meetup — Facebook | Shipped — Facebook (adds $8 shipping, $0 tax) | Poshmark (item price only) |
|---|---|---|---|
| $18 | Fee $0.00 → keep $18.00 | Fee $2.60 → keep $23.40 before label | Fee $3.60 → keep $14.40 |
| $28 | Fee $0.00 → keep $28.00 | Fee $3.60 → keep $32.40 before label | Fee $5.60 → keep $22.40 |
| $40 | Fee $0.00 → keep $40.00 | Fee $4.80 → keep $43.20 before label | Fee $8.00 → keep $32.00 |
| $80 | Fee $0.00 → keep $80.00 | Fee $8.80 → keep $79.20 before label | Fee $16.00 → keep $64.00 |
Two footnotes keep this honest. First, the label: Facebook's prepaid label is deducted from the shipped payout and has no single published price, so every "keep" figure above is before that deduction — the meetup column is the only one with nothing waiting off-stage. Second, the $0.80 minimum: it only bites when 10% of the checkout would fall under $0.80, meaning checkouts below $8.00, which the rows above never reach. Method notes are in how Feebrief computes fees.
The break-even rule, said once
Strip the brand names and the whole page reduces to one inequality: 0.10 × (item + shipping + tax) versus 0.20 × item. The left side is smaller exactly while shipping plus tax stay below the item's own price — so, in one sentence: for anything listed at $15 or more, Facebook's shipped lane is the cheaper fee as long as what you add for shipping and tax is smaller than the item itself, and only when the add-ons outweigh the item (dense, cheap, heavy things) can Poshmark's 20% of a smaller base come out ahead. Below $15 the sentence changes: Poshmark's flat $2.95 loses to a tenth of the checkout unless shipping and tax push that checkout past $29.50 — an edge case, but the one place a sub-$15 Poshmark listing can be the fee winner.
One of these has a calculator
Poshmark's numbers can be re-run live: Feebrief keeps a Poshmark fee calculator on its Poshmark page, and every Poshmark row above can be checked against it. Facebook Marketplace publishes no calculator of its own, and this page doesn't pretend otherwise — each Facebook figure here was worked by hand from the 10%-of-total rule and the $0.80 floor. For the wider field of platforms, resale marketplace fees compared gathers the same hand-checked treatment in one place.
Facebook Marketplace vs Poshmark fees: FAQ
Which is cheaper for a $20 shirt, Facebook Marketplace or Poshmark?
Facebook Marketplace, in both of its lanes. A $20 meetup sale keeps the full $20.00. Shipped with $8 shipping, the fee is 10% of the $28.00 checkout, or $2.80, leaving $25.20 before the label cost. On Poshmark a $20 shirt is above the $15 line, so the fee is 20% of $20.00, or $4.00, leaving $16.00. Fees are not the only lens — Poshmark bundles the buyer's shipping and puts the listing in front of its own audience — but on dollars alone Facebook wins this basket.
Does Poshmark charge its 20% on shipping?
No. The commission applies to the sale price of the item only. The buyer's shipping payment does not pass through your payout, and payment processing is already inside the $2.95-or-20% figure rather than added on top.
Does the Facebook Marketplace selling fee include shipping and tax?
Yes. On shipped orders paid through onsite checkout, the fee is 10% of the total transaction value — item price plus shipping plus applicable taxes — with a $0.80 minimum per order. The tables on this page assume $0 tax and say so where it matters.
Is it better to list at $15.00 or $14.99 on Poshmark?
$14.99. The flat $2.95 fee leaves $12.04; at $15.00 the 20% fee is $3.00 and leaves $12.00. Every price from $15.00 through $15.04 keeps less than $14.99 does, $15.05 ties it, and only $15.06 and up finally beat it.

Where the numbers come from
Every rate on this page was read from the platforms' own published pages, recorded in Feebrief's fee database (fees.json), and cross-checked against Feebrief's FACTS-batch1 record for Facebook Marketplace and FACTS-batch4 record for Poshmark — all dated 2026-11-01. The $15.00–$15.04 payout band and the break-even sentence are derived arithmetic from those recorded rates, shown step by step above rather than asserted.

Disclosure
Feebrief is an independent fee reference, not an agent of Meta or Poshmark. Nothing on this page is paid placement, neither platform reviewed the arithmetic, and no commission changes hands when you pick a lane. Hand-computed figures drift when a rate page changes — the check date at the top is the freshness marker, and re-verifying against the linked pages before you price a real listing is the seller's step, not the platform's. The full policy lives at Feebrief's disclosure.
