Does Etsy Charge Fees on Shipping? Yes — Here's Which Fees Do

Yes. Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee and 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee both charge on the shipping you collect; the $0.20 listing fee does not. This page gives the verdict per fee line, one worked order, and nothing else you don't need.

Etsy fee data checked against the Etsy legal fees page, Etsy Help on fees and taxes, and the Etsy Payments policy. Rates shown are for US sellers paid through Etsy Payments. United States, USD.

Short answer: two fees charge on shipping, one does not

In one sentence: the shipping a buyer pays is charged twice — once by the 6.5% transaction fee and once by the 3% + $0.25 processing fee — while the $0.20 listing fee never touches it.

The base column is the whole answer: shipping sits inside the transaction base and inside the processing base, but outside the listing fee entirely.

Worked example: $50 item + $5 shipping, no sales tax

A US order with a $50.00 item and $5.00 buyer-paid shipping is a $55.00 order. Line by line, as of 2026-10-31 rates:

Fees on a $50 item with $5 shipping and no sales tax, US, USD, as of 2026-10-31
FeeArithmeticAmount
Transaction fee6.5% × $55.00 (item + shipping)$3.58
Payment processing3% × $55.00 + $0.25$1.90
Order-side total$3.58 + $1.90$5.48

The $0.20 listing fee is not part of that $5.48: it was charged separately when the listing was published, and it is the same $0.20 whether shipping is $5, $30, or free. Sales tax is set to $0 in this example to keep the two fee bases identical.

One tax wrinkle: the two bases differ

The 6.5% transaction fee excludes US sales tax, while the 3% + $0.25 processing fee runs on the gross order amount, including shipping and tax when applicable. So when a buyer does pay sales tax, the two percentage fees sit on bases that differ by exactly the tax amount. That is the full extent of the wrinkle on this page — not tax advice, just what each published base includes.

What the $0.20 listing fee is not

The listing fee is $0.20, flat, charged each time a listing is published or renewed — not a percentage of anything, and never charged on shipping or gift wrap. Whether the item sells for $5 or $500, with free shipping or paid, the listing fee stays $0.20. That is why it never appears in a "does Etsy charge on shipping" answer except to rule it out.
