Etsy Listing Renewal Fee: What Renewing a Listing Costs
Renewing an Etsy listing costs the same $0.20 USD as publishing it — one flat listing fee on Etsy's fee schedule covers both. Each renewal buys a fresh four-month term, or the listing ends when the item sells. Editing a live listing is free; renewal is the only paid path to extend a listing's term.

Short answer: renewal is the same $0.20 as publishing
Renewing an Etsy listing charges the same $0.20 USD as publishing it. Each renewal buys another four-month term, or runs until the item sells. Editing a listing is free — renewal is the only paid path to extend a term. (Source: Etsy legal fees, checked 2026-10-31.)
Scope: this page covers the renewal path only — what re-listing costs and what triggers the charge. For the publish fee in full, see the Etsy listing fee page; for when the charge hits your bill, see when Etsy takes the listing fee.
What triggers a renewal — and what doesn't
Every renewal, whatever starts it, is the same $0.20 charge on the same terms, per the Etsy legal fees page (checked 2026-10-31). What differs is the trigger — and one common action that never charges:
| Trigger | Charge | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Listing reaches its four-month expiry | $0.20 | A new four-month term |
| Listing sells and you relist | $0.20 | A fresh listing term — four months or until sold |
| Auto-renew enabled | $0.20 per renewal | The same renewal, on schedule |
| Editing the listing | $0 — free | Changes without a new term |
All amounts in USD, US sellers. Note that auto-renew does not introduce a different fee — it schedules the identical $0.20 renewal you would otherwise trigger manually at expiry or after a sale.
What slow listings cost: renewal math
A listing that never sells and stays continuously live accrues a $0.20 charge roughly every four months. Over one year that is approximately three four-month terms — 3 × $0.20 = $0.60 — and approximately $1.80 over three years. These are Feebrief's approximations derived from the four-month term and the $0.20 rate, not Etsy-published examples; the actual count depends on when each listing sells or is renewed.
| Horizon | Four-month terms | Approx. total (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 year | ≈ 3 | $0.60 |
| 3 years | ≈ 9 | $1.80 |
Renewals generally happen at term boundaries, so counts are approximate; a listing that sells stops accruing renewals entirely. And renewal fees are sunk: paid at the moment of renewal, never deducted from any later sale. For the full charge-timing treatment, see when Etsy takes the listing fee.
Editing is free; renewal is not
Editing a live listing — price, photos, description, tags — is free per Etsy's fee pages (checked 2026-10-31). What editing never does is extend the four-month clock: edit a listing the day before its term ends and it still expires the next day. The only paid action that starts a new four-month term is a $0.20 renewal. The fee schedule draws the line at term extension, not at saving changes — so an edit-and-save costs nothing, while a renewal costs $0.20 no matter how small the change that prompted it.
When the listing sells: order-side fees, in one line
When a renewed listing does sell, order-side fees apply on top — a 6.5% transaction fee and a 3% + $0.25 processing fee — entirely separate from the $0.20 publish/renew charge: see the listing fee overview, the transaction-vs-listing split, and the charge-timing page for those paths.
Etsy listing renewal fee: frequently asked questions
Does renewing an Etsy listing cost money?
Yes. Each renewal is a $0.20 USD charge, the same flat amount as the original publish fee, per Etsy's fee schedule checked 2026-10-31. Renewal is the only paid path that starts a new listing term.
Is the renewal fee different from the Etsy listing fee?
No. It is the same $0.20 line item. Publishing a listing charges it once; each renewal charges it again. See Feebrief's Etsy listing fee page for the publish-side overview.
How long does an Etsy renewal last?
Four months, or until the item sells — whichever comes first. A renewal buys exactly the same term a fresh listing gets.
Is editing a live Etsy listing free?
Yes. Editing a live listing costs $0 and never extends the four-month term. Only a $0.20 renewal starts a new term.
Is the renewal fee taken out of the sale?
No. The $0.20 is paid at the moment of renewal — a sunk cost that is never deducted from a payout. When the item sells, order-side fees (a 6.5% transaction fee and a 3% + $0.25 processing fee) are charged separately.
What does continuous renewal cost per year?
Approximately $0.60 — about 3 × $0.20 for three four-month terms — and about $1.80 over three years. These are Feebrief's approximations derived from the $0.20 rate and the four-month term, not Etsy-published figures.
