The RealReal payout time: when consignment money actually arrives
The RealReal runs standard consignment payouts on a single monthly cycle: commissions for one month's sales are processed on the 15th of the next. When money actually lands after that depends on your payout method — direct deposit, mailed check, or site credit. This guide separates the cycle from the three delivery clocks.
The RealReal payout timing checked against The RealReal's consign FAQ, consignor terms § (vi) and site credit terms. Applies to US consignors paid in USD. United States, USD.
Feebrief is not affiliated with The RealReal. Feebrief has no live calculator for this platform — payout timing is set by The RealReal's fixed monthly cycle and payout method, not by anything a calculator could compute — so this page lays out the clocks instead.
Short answer: the 15th, plus a method clock
- Cadence: commission payments are issued on the 15th of each month, following the month in which items were sold — items sold in January are paid on February 15th. The terms put it as typically beginning processing on the 15th day of every month.
- Weekend rule: if the 15th falls on a weekend, payments are processed the Monday after the 15th.
- Delivery: direct deposit can take up to 48 hours to transmit; checks can take 5–7 business days by USPS; site credit is applied to your account and earns +5% over the cash commission.
So the honest answer to "when does The RealReal pay" is two numbers, not one: the 15th (or the Monday after) is when processing happens, and your payout method's delivery clock runs on top of it.
How the monthly 15th cycle works
Per the consignor terms § (vi), The RealReal typically begins processing commission payments on the 15th day of every month for sales that occurred during the previous month. The consign FAQ gives the worked example: payments processed on April 15th cover the selling period March 1–31. An item sold January 20 therefore has its commission processed on February 15th — not at sale time.
If the 15th falls on a weekend, payments will be processed the Monday after the 15th. That Monday shift is commonly missed by explainers, and it matters: a seller watching their account on a Saturday the 15th is not "late" — nothing has even started processing yet.
Also note that "processed" does not mean "money in bank." The 15th is when processing begins; how long the money takes to reach you after that depends entirely on the payout method you have selected.
Payout method clocks: direct deposit, check, site credit
| Payout method | Processing | Delivery clock | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct deposit | 15th (Monday after, if the 15th is a weekend) | Can take up to 48 hours to transmit to your bank | Terms: typically at least two business days — estimates only, subject to change |
| Mailed check | 15th (Monday after, if the 15th is a weekend) | Can take 5–7 business days to arrive by USPS | FAQ: $12.50 non-refundable fee per check; terms: may charge a processing fee |
| Site credit | 15th monthly cycle | Applied to your account — no bank leg | +5% over the cash commission; post-15th availability clock not published |

The check fee: two wordings, both published
The FAQ states plainly that there is a $12.50 non-refundable fee deducted from the payment total for each check. The consignor terms instead say you may, in The RealReal's sole discretion, be charged a processing fee if you choose a paper check. Rather than silently pick one, this page reports both; if the difference matters to a specific payout, confirm the current wording in your consignor account. The wider fee structure, including how the check fee sits alongside other deductions, is covered in The RealReal fees explained.
Site credit: the +5% trade
Site credit pays 5% more than the cash commission — the site credit terms phrase it as your commission being increased by five (5) percent over the cash amount. Site credit rides the same 15th monthly framing, but The RealReal does not publish a separate clock for when issued credit becomes usable beyond that; treat any site quoting a fixed site-credit arrival day as inventing it.
Get Paid Now: a separate path with its own clocks
Get Paid Now is not a setting on standard payouts — it is a separate program in which you sell select watches, jewelry and handbags to The RealReal upfront, without waiting for the items to sell on consignment. Its clocks are different from the monthly cycle: payment by direct deposit within 48 hours, or site credit (+5%) immediately.
Eligibility is handled on The RealReal's Get Paid Now page; when we checked on 2026-11-01, that page rendered only navigation chrome with no timing or eligibility copy, so the clocks above come from the consign FAQ, which links to it. Whether an upfront offer is a good trade against consignment is a value question for sibling pages, not this timing guide.
Amount ≠ timing
One line of context only: the size of your payout is set by The RealReal's commission schedule, not its calendar. For example, clothing with a $250 sale price in the Trendsetter tier (55% commission) yields a $137.50 payout amount — an amount example only, not a timing fact. What we could and couldn't verify
On 2026-11-01, Feebrief loaded The RealReal's consign FAQ, consignor terms and site credit terms in a full browser session and confirmed every timing fact above against them. Two boundaries, stated plainly: The RealReal's Zendesk help article "How and when do I get paid" redirects and could not be opened live — its wording is mirrored in the consign FAQ, which is what this page cites — and the /getpaidnow page returned an empty shell, so its timing likewise comes from the FAQ. None of the three pages we opened shows a visible last-updated stamp, so treat 2026-11-01 as the check date and confirm current terms in your consignor account or The RealReal's help center. The RealReal payout time FAQ
How long after a sale does The RealReal pay?
Commission payments are issued on the 15th of each month, following the month in which items were sold — items sold in January are paid on February 15th. The RealReal typically begins processing commission payments on the 15th day of every month for the previous month's sales. Delivery then depends on your payout method: direct deposit can take up to 48 hours to transmit to your bank, checks can take 5–7 business days by USPS, and site credit has no bank leg.
What happens if the 15th is a weekend?
If the 15th falls on a weekend, payments will be processed the Monday after the 15th. Your payout method's delivery clock — up to 48 hours for direct deposit, 5–7 business days for a check — starts from that Monday processing date, not from the calendar 15th.
How long does The RealReal direct deposit take?
Direct deposit payments are processed on the 15th and can take up to 48 hours to transmit to your bank. The consignor terms describe the same leg as typically taking at least two business days, and note that these times are estimates only and subject to change.
Is there a fee for a check payout?
Yes, per the consign FAQ: there is a $12.50 non-refundable fee deducted from the payment total for each check. The consignor terms word it more broadly — you may, in The RealReal's sole discretion, be charged a processing fee if you choose a paper check. Both wordings were checked 2026-11-01; confirm the current wording in your consignor account.
Can I get paid faster than the 15th?
Not on the standard monthly cycle — there is no published way to accelerate it. The separate Get Paid Now program (select watches, jewelry and handbags, sold upfront rather than consigned) pays by direct deposit within 48 hours or as site credit (+5%) immediately. Eligibility is handled on The RealReal's Get Paid Now page.
