eBay Final Value Fee: What You Pay per Sale
For a US seller without an eBay Store, in Most categories, eBay charges a final value fee of 13.6% of the total amount of the sale up to $7,500 per item, then 2.35% on the portion above, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 or $0.40. It is charged only when an item actually sells.
Final value fee rates curl-verified against eBay's published selling fees help page (id=4822); Feebrief's browser-based fetch receives HTTP 403 from ebay.com, so verification used a plain curl request, which returned HTTP 200 — approach documented in Feebrief's methodology. What is the eBay final value fee?
The final value fee is eBay's charge on a completed sale: when an item sells, eBay takes a percentage of the total amount of the sale plus a small per-order fee. Because sales run through eBay's managed payments system, the final value fee includes payment processing — there is no separate PayPal or card processing fee on top. This page is a single-fee reference: the rate, the per-order fee, and exactly what the percentage is applied to. For the full fee picture — insertion fees plus final value fees in one place — see eBay fees explained, or Feebrief's eBay fees page for the live estimator.
Final value fee rate bands
| Seller type | Category scope | Rate up to the threshold | Rate on the portion above | Threshold |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Non-Store | Most categories | 13.6% | 2.35% | $7,500 |
| Store — Starter | Most categories | 13.6% | 2.35% | $7,500 |
| Store — Basic and above | Clothing class | 12.7% | 2.35% | $2,500 |
Rates as of (curl-verified). Bands apply to the total amount of the sale — see the fee base below. United States, USD.
For a non-Store seller, the 13.6% rate applies to the total amount of the sale up to $7,500 per item; any portion above $7,500 is charged 2.35% instead. Two mechanics matter: the threshold applies per item, and only the portion above the threshold gets the lower rate — a sale that crosses $7,500 pays 13.6% on the first $7,500 and 2.35% on the remainder, not one rate on the whole amount.
The Store rows show the contrast worth knowing: for Basic and above, the band confirmed here is the clothing class at 12.7% up to $2,500, then 2.35% — the threshold drops from $7,500 to $2,500 and the headline rate from 13.6% to 12.7%. Basic, Premium, Anchor, and Enterprise Store tiers share one final value fee table; there is no unique percentage per subscription package. A Starter Store, by contrast, matches the non-Store headline in Most categories: 13.6% up to $7,500, then 2.35%. Store subscription prices are not restated here — the fee bands are the story. Final value fee rates for categories not shown above vary and are not stated on this page.

What the final value fee applies to: the fee base
The percentage is applied to the total amount of the sale, not just the item price. Per eBay's published definition (curl-verified 2026-11-01), the fee base is:
- Item price — what the buyer pays for the item itself.
- Handling — the handling charge, where one applies.
- Shipping charge collected from the buyer (exceptions).
- Sales tax — applicable sales tax collected from the buyer.
- Other applicable fees — other fees that may apply to the sale.
So the direct answer to a common question — does eBay charge the final value fee on shipping? — is yes: shipping collected from the buyer is part of the base, with exceptions. The hedges in that list are load-bearing, and this page keeps them verbatim rather than rounding them into a cleaner claim: "exceptions" and "other applicable fees" are eBay's own qualifiers. When no shipping charge is collected from the buyer, the base is item price plus handling plus sales tax.
The per-order fee: $0.30 or $0.40
| Order total | Per-order fee |
|---|---|
| $10 or less | $0.30 |
| More than $10 | $0.40 |
The per-order fee is charged per order, in addition to the final value fee. Which amount applies depends on the order total: at or below $10, it is $0.30; above $10, it is $0.40 (curl-verified 2026-11-01). It is a flat charge separate from the percentage, and it appears as its own line in the worked example below.
Worked example: $50 item + $5 shipping
A US seller without an eBay Store sells an item in a Most category: item price $50, shipping collected from the buyer $5, sales tax $0. The total amount of the sale — the fee base — is $55.
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Total amount of the sale (item $50 + shipping $5 + tax $0) | $55.00 |
| Final value fee (13.6% × $55 — sale under $7,500) | $7.48 |
| Per-order fee (order total over $10) | $0.40 |
| Total fees | $7.88 |
| Net before other costs | $47.12 |
Because the sale sits under the $7,500 threshold, the entire $55 falls in the 13.6% band: 13.6% of $55 is $7.48. The order total is over $10, so the per-order fee is $0.40 — total fees $7.88, net proceeds $47.12 before other costs, such as any insertion fees past the monthly allotment (which generally do not apply to casual sellers staying under it). Other sale amounts can be checked on Feebrief's eBay fees page, which hosts the live estimator; no calculator is embedded on this page.
What about insertion fees?
The final value fee is the sale-time charge; the listing-time charge is separate. In brief: non-Store sellers get up to 250 listings per month with a $0 insertion fee, then pay $0.35 per listing in Most categories. The full breakdown is on eBay insertion fees.
eBay final value fee: quick answers
Does eBay charge the final value fee on shipping?
Yes. Shipping collected from the buyer is part of the total amount of the sale the final value fee is calculated on (exceptions exist). Handling and sales tax are in the base too, so the fee applies to more than the item price alone.
Is there a per-order fee in addition to the final value fee?
Yes: $0.30 if the order total is $10 or less, and $0.40 if the order total is more than $10 (curl-verified 2026-11-01). It is charged per order, on top of the percentage.
Does the rate drop above $7,500?
Yes. For a non-Store seller in Most categories, 13.6% applies to the total amount of the sale up to $7,500 per item, and 2.35% applies to the portion above. The threshold is per item, and only the portion above it gets the lower rate.
Do I pay payment processing separately?
No. Sales run through eBay's managed payments, and the final value fee includes payment processing — there is no separate PayPal or card processing fee on top of the final value fee and per-order fee.
Do Store sellers pay the same final value fee?
It depends on the tier and category. A Starter Store matches the non-Store headline in Most categories: 13.6% up to $7,500, then 2.35%. For Basic and above, Basic, Premium, Anchor, and Enterprise share one final value fee table — no unique percentage per package; the clothing-class band is 12.7% up to $2,500, then 2.35%.
What about other categories — and other fees?
Final value fee rates vary by category, and this page states only the bands above; no other category rates are invented here — see eBay's selling fees page or eBay fees explained for the wider picture. The final value fee is also not eBay's only fee: insertion fees apply at listing time (does eBay charge a listing fee?), and there are above-board ways to reduce eBay seller fees.
