Does Mercari Charge a Listing Fee? No — Listing Is Free
No. Mercari charges $0 to list. Listing on Mercari is always free — you owe nothing to post an item and nothing while it waits unsold. Mercari's fee applies only when your item sells: a 10% selling fee on the item price plus buyer-paid shipping, for listings created/updated on/after Jan 6. Listing is free; selling is what costs.
Listing fee facts checked against Mercari's Help Center article "Fees on Mercari" (article 169), cross-checked against Feebrief's fees.json, last checked 2026-10-23. This page covers the US marketplace only, in USD. United States, USD.

So when does Mercari actually charge you?
The whole question is timing. Here is every moment a charge can appear on a Mercari sale, and what is owed at each:
| Moment | What Mercari charges |
|---|---|
| You create a listing | $0 — listing is free |
| Item sits unsold | $0 — no other listing-time charge is documented in the fee data Feebrief tracks |
| Item never sells | $0 owed — delete it or relist it, still $0 |
| Item sells | 10% of the item price plus buyer-paid shipping — the selling fee; payment processing is included for seller, with no separate seller processing line on those listings |
| You cash out instantly (optional) | $3 flat Instant Pay — an optional withdrawal product, not a listing fee |
| Buyer's side of the same sale | ~3.6% Buyer Protection on item plus shipping — buyer-paid, not a seller listing or selling fee |
Source of record: Feebrief's fees.json (Mercari entry, last checked 2026-10-23) and Mercari's Help Center "Fees on Mercari" (article 169). The 10% rate applies for listings created/updated on/after Jan 6 — Feebrief's fee data records that effective date as Jan 6, 2025, shown here exactly as recorded. United States, USD. The full fee-by-fee breakdown lives on Mercari fees explained, not here.
Free to list forever, paid only to sell
A "listing fee" is a charge for posting an item — money owed at the moment you create a listing, regardless of whether it ever sells. Mercari has none: $0 at listing, $0 while unsold, $0 if it never sells. The only seller fee in the current fee data is the selling fee — 10% of the item price plus buyer-paid shipping — and it exists only at the moment of sale, with payment processing included for seller on those listings. That is the entire distinction: on Mercari, the money question is never at listing; it is at sale.
One tiny worked sale: $0 at list, $5.50 at sale
List a $50 item with $5 buyer-paid shipping and watch when money actually moves. The fee base is the item price plus buyer-paid shipping: $50 + $5 = $55.
| When | Mercari charge | You keep |
|---|---|---|
| At listing | $0 | — (no money has moved) |
| When it sells ($50 item + $5 shipping = $55) | $5.50 (10% × $55) | $49.50 |
The keep figure is arithmetic derived from the 10% rate in fees.json (last checked 2026-10-23); it is an illustration, not a quote. United States, USD. For other price points, the live Mercari estimator is a separate page at /mercari/ — this doorway page has no calculator embedded.
Three Mercari fees that are NOT listing fees
Most "wait, I thought listing was free?" confusion comes from mixing these up with a listing fee:
- Buyer Protection, ~3.6% of item plus shipping — buyer-paid. This sits on the buyer's side of the sale; it is not a seller listing fee and not part of the 10% selling fee.
- Instant Pay, $3 flat — a withdrawal product (as of 2026-11-01). It is a fee for cashing out a sale instantly, charged only if you choose it. It has nothing to do with listing. Details: Mercari Instant Pay fee.
- Seller Tiers discounts — the beta ended. Older pages may still list tiered discounts; no tier discount appears in the current fee data, so do not price against one.
Scope note: this page covers Mercari's US marketplace only. Mercari Japan is a separate marketplace with its own fee structure, out of scope here.
